REACHING FOR THE STARS: The 2011-12 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year, Kyrie Irving, put together one of the most stellar rookie campaigns in Cavaliers and NBA history. His averages in scoring, assists, field goal percentage, three-point percentage and free throw percentage place him in rare company amongst many former All-Stars and Hall of Fame players in their inaugural campaigns. Irving ended the season averaging 18.5 points and 5.4 assists per game. Kyrie joined , , Allen Iverson and LeBron James as the only #1 overall draft picks to average 18.0 points and 5.0 assists.

Kyrie also shot .469 from the field and averaged 1.1 steals per game. Irving became one of six rookies in league history to average 18.0 points, 5.0 assists, 1.0 steals and .450 shooting from the field, along with , Magic Johnson, , and .

The 6-3 guard shot .399 from three-point range. By finishing the season averaging at least 18.0 points and shooting .399 from three-point range, Irving joins as the only rookies in NBA history to accomplish this feat.

Irving also shot an exceptional .872 from the free throw line. Kyrie became just the fourth rookie in league history to average 18.0 points and shoot at least .860 from the free throw line, joining , Kevin Durant and O.J. Mayo.

SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST: The Cavaliers were one of the best fourth quarter teams in the entire league last season. The Cavs averaged 24.1 points per fourth quarter, which ranked third in the Eastern Conference and ninth in the NBA. Cleveland did much of their damage in the fourth quarter in the paint, averaging 10.7 points in the paint in the fourth, which was ranked first in the East and fourth most in the NBA. The Cavaliers were also one of the most efficient shooting teams inside the last three minutes of games. The Cavs .468 field goal percentage inside the final three minutes of the fourth quarter led the NBA.

LEADER BOARD: The Cavaliers finished the 2011-12 regular season averaging 12.7 offensive rebounds per game, which ranked fourth in the NBA and second in the Eastern Conference. Cleveland was also one of the better teams at scoring in the paint in 2011-12, averaging 41.9 points in the paint per game, which ranked third in the East and ninth in the league. During the 2011-12 regular season, the Cavs also excelled at limiting the opposition’s transition points. Their 11.7 fast break points allowed per contest was the fourth fewest in the NBA.

CANTON CHARGE UPDATE: The Canton Charge, the NBA Development League team owned and operated by the Cleveland Cavaliers, made former Cleveland State guard D’Aundray Brown their No. 1 pick in the 2012 NBA Development League Draft. The Charge finished the 2011-12 regular season at 27-23 and in third place in the D-League Eastern Conference. The team advanced to the second round of the playoffs, the semi-finals, where they fell to the Austin Toros two games to one. In their opening round series, Canton defeated the Springfield Armor 2-1. In the playoffs, Antoine Agudio averaged 18.7 points per game on .500 shooting, 5.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 40.8 minutes per game. The Charge’s 2012-13 season will tip off Friday, Nov. 23 versus Maine.
