  • Lebron, Stephen and the Essence of Florida Non-Competes Published May 18, 2017
LeBron, Stephen and the Essence of Florida Non-Competes Published May 18, 2017 As this blog post goes to press, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics just began their series to determine which team will face the winner of the series between the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs. To the surprise of very few, the Stephen Curry-led Warriors are leading the Spurs in the series and are widely expected to return to the NBA Finals. The LeBron James-led Cavaliers are expected to defeat the Celtics. (New Englanders widely disagree with this prediction, although the first-game blowout suggests the Cavaliers are playing with a champion’s confidence.) A Cavaliers series victory could set up a rematch of the pre-season division favorites. You may wonder how basketball rivalries and the NBA playoffs relate to non-competition agreements Florida. It’s simple. Both Cleveland and Golden State loaded their teams with talent to out-perform the competition. Cleveland added LeBron James and Kevin Love to join Kyrie Irving. Together, the three of them form a consistent and formidable foundation for the Cavaliers’ success. Golden State pulled off perhaps an equally impressive coup. With the possibility of an immediate championship, Golden State lured Kevin Durant away from adoring fans (and away from NBA All-Star Russell Westbrook) in Oklahoma City. Under the NBA rules, once a player is eligible for trade, there is very little that a team can do to stop that player from leaving to join a team that he prefers. Usually higher salaries incentivize players to move.

  • Xavier Newsletter #21 (PDF)
NEWSLETTER #21 - 2005-06 THE CHICAGO TEST In terms of individual development, it is the goal of our program to put every one of our players in a position to play professionally if they choose to do so. In addition to the 13 NBA players we have had over the past decade, Xavier has had a tremendous success rate over the last 10 years in placing graduates in professional options overseas. For highly talented players, one of the most important steps in pursuing a professional career is attending the NBA's pre-draft camps in Portsmouth and Chicago. At Chicago, players are measured for height, vertical jump and body fat and put through workouts and other testing. Based on this testing, our staff developed Xavier's version of the "Chicago test". For Coach Miller, it is very important to see the progress and developments a player makes over his time here at Xavier. He identified 9 categories which our players are tested on as soon as they step on campus as freshman, and then every October and March thereafter. The categories are listed below. This testing has been very beneficial to our staff and it has had a surprisingly positive impact on our players. It is something they refer to often, and in a sense, look forward to. To them, the test emphasizes the importance of their conditioning and development. It has been a big reason for how far they bought into getting better in all areas. CHICAGO TEST - SPRING 2006 HEIGHT: VERTICAL JUMP: WEIGHT: MILE RUN: BODY FAT: 17's TIME: WING SPAN: BENCH REPS @ 185LBS: STANDING REACH: -It is important that year-in, year-out, the same methods are used to measure, especially with body fat.

Cleveland Cavaliers: Could Derrick Williams Be A Long-Term Answer? Author : Robert D. Cobb Former No.2 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft in Derrick Williams has not even been a member of the defending NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers, yet he may possibly be a long-term solution. Williams, who was signed on a 10-day contract by the Cavaliers before their 118-109 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on February 9th, scored 12 points in 22 minutes while going a perfect three-of-three from the field. 1 / 3 The 6’8 235-pound swingman from Arizona followed up a solid debut with another strong effort in scoring seven points in 21 minutes of action during the Cavs 125-109 win over the visiting Denver Nuggets. In two games with the Wine and Gold, Williams has averaged near double figures with 9.9 a game, which combined with his open-court athleticism, imposing physicality and ability to attack the rim could prove to be a boon and a sneaky good pick-up for the champions are are in desperate need of big athletic bodies who can defend, score and counter the likes of Golden State and their length and up-tempo style of play. Minnesota. Sacramento. New York. Miami. Cleveland. Barely into his athletic prime and now on his fifth NBA team in six seasons, while many may question why a high top-five draft pick has failed to stick for any length of time, one needs to look at the teams and organizations he was in to get the answer to that question.
