The bench’s points per game had a +10.0 increase as the reserves were averaging 26.0 points prior to Jan. 25. Cleveland’s bench contributed at least 30 points in 29 of their final 39 games since the trade. Along with their 36.0 points per game, the bench also averaged 15.5 rebounds and 9.9 assists over that stretch.

CLOSE CALL: The Cavaliers had 35 games decided by six or fewer points, which was tied for the most in the NBA this past season ( Mavericks). Their 35 games are the most by the franchise since also having 35 such games back in 2007-08. WORTH THE WAITERS: Dion Waiters was selected to the 2012-13 NBA All-Rookie First Team after averaging 14.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 in 28.8 minutes per game through 61 appearances (48 starts). His best month came in February when he.was named the Kia NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month. During that month, he ranked first in scoring (15.8) and assists (3.1), second in steals (1.1) and (.514) and third in minutes (28.2) among Eastern Conference rookies (minimum 10 games played). He shot at least .500 from the field seven times, including .600 from the field six times in February. Below are a few notes on the Cavs’ rookie campaign: • Among East rookies, Waiters ranked 1st in points per game (14.7) and FTM (159), 2nd in assists per game (3.0) and 3rd in steals per game (1.0). • He scored in double figures in 45 games this season, including 14 games of 20 points or more. • Waiters made at least one three-pointer in each of his first 13 games of his career (10/30/12–11/24/12) and is one of three players in NBA history to have started their careers with 10-or-more consecutive games with a three-point field goal (, Rudy Fernandez).

ZELLER MAKES HIS MARK: Tyler Zeller also had a solid rookie campaign, appearing in 77 games (55 starts) and averaging 7.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 26.4 minutes per game. He was selected to the 2012-13 NBA All-Rookie Second Team after a solid season. Zeller notched seven double-doubles on the year, which ranked 4th among all NBA rookies. He also ranked 5th in blocks per game, 6th in rebounds per game and 8th in percentage (.764).

ACE OF SPEIGHTS: Marreese Speights put up solid numbers in his 39 games (one start) with the Cavs, averaging 10.2 points and 5.1 rebounds in 18.5 minutes per game. Check out a few notes on the Cavs’ big man:

Thompson also went a career-best 9-9 from the foul line in Boston. He became the 3rd player in Cavs history to post 10 straight double-doubles in a single season, joining Kenny Carr (10 straight in 1980-81) and Elmore Smith (11 straight in 1977-78). Here are a few more notes on Varejao’s stellar 2012-13 season: • Varejao scored at least 10 points and grabbed 15 or more rebounds, including five or more off the offensive glass, in 10 straight games from Nov. 18 – Dec. 5. The only other NBA player to score 10 points and grab at least 15 rebounds with five offensive boards in 10 straight games (since the league began recording offensive rebounds in the 1973-74 season) was , who had a 12-game streak for the 1978-79 Rockets. (Elias) • He is the first Cavs player in franchise history to have 10 straight games of at least 15 rebounds (Nov. 18 – Dec. 5). The last player in the NBA to have 10 straight games with 15 or more rebounds was (10 games in November/December 2010). • On the season, Varejao had 15 games of 15 rebounds-or-more and two games of at least 20 rebounds-or-more. • Over the last 10 seasons, Varejao (11/26 /12– 12/3/12) along with (5, for the Clippers in 2008-09) and Kevin Love (5, for the Timberwolves in March 2011) are the only players to grab 17 rebounds or more in five straight games. • In 25 games, he averaged a career-high 14.1 points, 14.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.5 steals in 36.0 minutes per game. • Prior to Dec. 19, Varejao led all qualifying NBA players in rebounds per game (14.4), offensive rebounds per game (5.5) and defensive rebounds per game (8.9) and was tied for 2nd in double-doubles (16).

The last time the Cavs had at least seven blocks in four straight games was Dec. 28, 2008 to Jan. 4, 2009. The Cavs’ season high in blocks came in a 104-101 victory over Utah on March 6 as seven Cavs players combined to swat 12 shots. The last time the Cavs had at least 12 blocks in a single game was November 16, 2007 against Utah (also 12 blocks).

WHAT A FEBRUARY: The Cavaliers finished February with a 7-5 record after putting together one of their highest-scoring months in the past 20 seasons. Through 12 games in February, Cleveland averaged 106.4 points, while dishing out an average of 23.7 assists to only 11.7 turnovers per game. Behind February 2010’s 107.5 points per game, the Cavs’ 106.4 points per game in February 2013 was their 2nd-highest scoring month since February 1993 (109.1 points per game). The Cavs scored over 100 points in nine of their 12 games in February and had the 2nd-highest points per game average in the Eastern Conference during the month (5th overall in the NBA). The Cavs also received 41.3 points per game from their reserves in February, which was the 6th-most in the NBA during the month.

MR. FOURTH QUARTER: In a 105-100 victory over the Hornets on Feb. 20, Kyrie Irving scored 20 of his game-high 35 points in the final seven minutes, which were the most points scored in a single period by a Cavalier this season. It was the second time Irving has scored 20 points in a quarter in his career (21 in the fourth quarter vs. NJN on 1/27/12). He finished the year averaging 6.8 points in the fourth quarter, which ranked 4th in the NBA. In the final three minutes of the final quarter, Irving averaged an NBA- high 3.5 points. He scored at least 10 points in 16 fourth quarters this year.

The last Cavaliers player to score at least 15 points in the first six minutes of a first quarter was against the Lakers back on Jan. 12, 2001. HOME IMPROVEMENT: From Jan. 9-25, the Cavs had its first three-game home winning streak since November 16-27, 2010. The team also experienced its second three-game winning streak at The Q this season from Feb. 2-8 in which they scored at least 115 points in each game. The last time the Cavs scored at least 115 points in three straight games was from Jan. 15-20, 1993.

COMEBACK KIDS: Against the on Jan. 25 at The Q, the Cavs overcame a 20-point deficit, 79-59, at the 6:12 mark of the third quarter by outscoring the Bucks 54-29 the rest of the way for their third straight home win. The last time Cleveland won after trailing by 20 or more points was on March 5, 2010 against Detroit, when the Cavaliers overcame a 21-point deficit.

40 AGAIN: Kyrie Irving notched his second career 40-point game after finishing with a game-high 40 points on 16-24 (.667) shooting from the field, five assists and two steals in 38 minutes in a 95-90 win over the on Jan. 22. Irving scored 19 in the first quarter, which was his most scored in an opening period on his career (previous 16 points at LA Clippers on November 5, 2012). He also scored 15 in the fourth quarter, including 11 of the team’s final 13 points. TURN IT OVER: At Denver on Jan. 11 and at the Lakers on Jan. 13, the Cavs forced 22 turnovers in consecutive games for the first time since Nov. 11-13, 2005 (vs. Memphis – 22, at Orlando – 23). The last time Cleveland forced 22 miscues or more in two consecutive road games was Nov. 26-28, 1997 (at Philadelphia – 24, at Charlotte – 25). On the season, the Cavs have forced at least 20 turnovers 11 times and were tied for 9th in the NBA in opponent turnovers per game (15.2).

400 CLUB: The 106-104 victory over Charlotte on Jan. 4 gave his 400th victory of his NBA head-coaching career. Scott, who won 693 games as an NBA player (for the Lakers, Pacers and Grizzlies), joined as the only current head coaches to win at least 400 games as both a coach and as a player. It marked Irving’s fourth career game-winning shot as he finished the night with a game-high 33 points, including shooting 10-10 from the free throw line, five rebounds, six assists, a career- high tying four steals and a career-high three blocks in 38 minutes. It was only the second time since 1985-86 a Cavs player tallied at least 33 points, five rebounds, six assists, four steals and three blocks in a single game (LeBron James on 1/9/09 vs. BOS).

70 2012-13 Cavaliers Season Game Notes TOO MANY MILES: After putting up back-to-back 28-point games and making at least five three-pointers in each (five triples on Dec. 11 vs. LAL and six triples on Dec. 12 at IND), C.J. Miles became the only Cleveland player since ’85-86 to score 28-plus points and make five or more threes in consecutive games. Also since 1985-86, only three other Cavs players have scored 25-plus points in their first two starts of a season: John “Hot Rod” Williams (25 at POR on 11/13/92 and 27 at SAC on 11/15/92), Terrell Brandon (25 at NJN on 11/01/96 and 31 at WAS on 11/02/96) and LeBron James (26 vs. WAS on 11/01/06 and 35 at SAS on 11/03/06).

HOT IN : In a 113-111 victory over the Hawks on Nov. 30, the Cavs outrebounded Atlanta 49-28. Tristan Thompson (15) and Anderson Varejao (18) combined for 33 of the Cavs 49 rebounds and became the first pair of Cavs teammates to grab at least 15 rebounds since March 26, 2008 against the Hornets (Varejao – 15 rebs, Zydrunas Ilgauskas – 15 rebs). The last time Cleveland had a 20-plus advantage was on April 20, 2012 against the Knicks (52-32). BOARDING UP NOVEMBER: Anderson Varejao finished the month of November with 204 rebounds in 14 games, the second- most rebounds in a calendar month for any player in Cavaliers history.
