It values their knowledge, perspective, COMMUNITY BASED PARTICIPATORY recognizes their assets and contributions, and connects research to 12 RESEARCH AT GW community action and social change. This panel, moderated by the Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service, invites several GW researchers to share examples of their work in CBPR in order to illustrate the values and principles of this work across several disciplines. Undergraduate and graduate students in the Milken School of Public 12-4PM ET Health will present their research posters to judges and compete for prizes. POSTER PRESENTATIONS These presentations are not open to the public so if you would like to (BY INVITATION ONLY) register to attend, please contact the student presenter. APRIL Undergraduate and graduate students in the arts, business, education, 12-4PM ET engineering, humanities, law, mathematics, sciences and other topics POSTER PRESENTATIONS will present their research posters to judges and compete for prizes. These 13 (BY INVITATION ONLY) presentations are not open to the public so if you would like to register to attend, please contact the student presenter. The Knapp Fellowship, coordinated by the Honey W. Nashman Center for 4-5PM ET Civic Engagement and Public Service, provides up to $10,000 annually to THE 20/21 KNAPP FELLOWS: STUDENT support undergraduate or graduate student projects that intersect scholarly COMMUNITY ENGAGED SCHOLARSHIP activity with community engagement. In this session, this year’s Knapp Fellows will present the process and outcomes of their respective research projects, and discuss their learning experiences along the way. David McCarthy from the GW Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship will 5-5:30PM ET conduct a short Info Session about the National Science Foundation I-Corp NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION Programs available to GW faculty, students, and staff. The I-Corps programs I-CORPS PROGRAMS INFO SESSION provide grants of $3,000 and $50,000 to researchers who want to explore the possible uses and applications of their work. APRIL This session will provide an overview of the approaches and findings from 11AM-12PM ET GW’s Rethinking DC Youth and Policing course. This research-based course RETHINKING DC YOUTH AND POLICING: is designed to provide a space for students to engage juvenile justice and 14 STUDENT RESEARCH DISCUSSION youth diversion programs research and recommend policy and actions that will be anti-racist and aim to lead to more youth diversions from arrest in the DC area. Students and residents in the School of Medicine and Health Sciences as 12-4PM ET well as the School of Nursing will present their research posters to judges POSTER PRESENTATIONS and compete for prizes. GW Research Showcase is pleased to host a campus-wide virtual screening 5-6PM ET of Picture a Scientist, which chronicles the groundswell of researchers who GW WOMEN IN RESEARCH: PICTURE A are writing a new chapter for women scientists. After watching the film, GW SCIENTIST FILM DISCUSSION community members are invited to join GW professors from CCAS, SEAS, and SPH to discuss their thoughts on issues raised in the film as well as their experiences as women in their respective fields. A GW School of Public Health team is participating in the national-level study 6-6:45PM ET to enhance surveillance of masking and distancing behaviors that directly CITIZEN SCIENTISTS: PUBLIC contribute to control of viral spread.     WALIA journal 35(1): 70-76, 2019 Available online at www.Waliaj.com ISSN 1026-3861 © 2019 WALIA ISIS Khorasan: Presence, affiliations and regional alliances with Russia Muhammad Amin *, Muhammad Asif University of Balochistan, Quetta, Pakistan Abstract: The eco-political instability of the Middle East gave birth to ISIS. It made the Middle Eastern region destabilized. ISIS has a large number of fighters from other regions of the world. Some of them belong to Pakistan, China, Afghanistan, Russia and Central Asia. The growth and revenue of ISIS influenced the Taliban and Al-Qaeda splinters to announce an affiliation with ISIS. It announced ISIS Wilayat Khorasan with the help of these splinters. The affiliates of ISIS Khorasan are attacking and killing many people of Pakistan and Afghanistan are being attacked by ISIS Khorasan. It also wants to spread its growth and launch attacks in other countries of this region. Russia, China and Pakistan want to form an alliance against ISIS. Therefore, they are organizing regular meetings on the issue. The entry of ISIS Khorasan in the region demands from the regional countries a comprehensive strategy to counter ISIS Khorasan. The analytical method has been used for this study and most of the data have been taken from secondary sources. IQBAL DOI: 10.14267cojourn.2017v2n2a7 COJOURN 2:2-3 (2017) The downfall of Daesh in the Middle East and implications for global security Khuram Iqbal1 Abstract Territorial losses of Daesh, or the Islamic State (IS), in Iraq and Syria have led many to conjure the demise of the global terrorist organization. Conditions on ground, however, are ripe for the recuperation of the organization. The presence of extra-regional players, the widening Shia-Sunni divide, the failure of Iraqi and Syrian governments to stabilize the conflict-hit regions and a timely decision by Daesh to activate its sleeper cells in different parts of Europe, Asia and Africa could very much benefit the organization in recovering from battlefield losses or heralding the fourth wave of global jihad. This, then, could further augment the global implications of the rise of IS, including revival of Cold War era “proxy-ism”, refugee crises leading to fissures among the community of European nations, the intensification of the sectarian conflict in the Muslim world and “lone wolf” terrorism in the West. The paper seeks to map the possibility of Daesh’s recuperation in light of the “terrorist lifecycle” and how this would impact the global peace in general, and in South Asia in particular.
