THE COLORECTAL CANCER ASSOCIATION OF CANADA ANNOUNCES ITS DAZZLING GETYOURBUTTSEEN RUNWAY GALA MONTREAL, November 22nd, 2010 /CNW/ - The Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada (CCAC) is delighted to announce its upcoming GetYourButtSeen Runway Gala, an edgy and provocative fundraising endeavour taking place in Montreal on December 1st, 2010 at Théâtre L’Olympia. Inspired by the worldwide success of their award winning on line campaign www.getyourbuttseen.ca the CCAC is bringing the fashion world to colorectal cancer. Fashion will take centre stage during the opening runway spectacular, produced by Hans Koechling and styled by Christina Louiso. Co-emceed by Jeanne Beker, the face of CTV’s FashionTelevision and Isabelle Hudon, President of Sun Life Financial, Quebec, the event will welcome Montreal’s chicest benefactors and generous members of the fashion industry as they come together to honour courageous colorectal cancer patients and raise funds for the organization’s awareness campaigns, education initiatives, patient support programs and advocacy efforts. "At Sun Life Financial we're proud to support innovative initiatives like the GetYourButtSeen Runway Gala that help raise community awareness through education on issues such as how a healthy lifestyle can help prevent disease," said Isabelle Hudon, president, Sun Life Financial, Quebec. “I always adore the way fashion often finds its way to the heart of an issue--in this case, bringing much needed awareness to something some people have an awkward time with--the subject of getting your butt examined!!! In a light-hearted, wonderfully human way, our fashion show aims to both entertain AND edify... And what a fabulous excuse to feast your eyes on some beautiful backsides, while raising funds and awareness for this vital cause.” Said Jeanne Beker, Host of Fashion Television CTV. Guests of the event can expect a star studded evening of cheeky elegance, including a red-carpet cocktail hour, luxury silent auction, healthy gourmet cuisine, and musical performances by electropop duo The Pinup Saints and Quebec rock band The Porn Flakes. In addition to raising funds to combat the second leading cause of cancer death in Quebec and Canada, the event celebrates highlights CCAC triumphs in prevention and colorectal cancer screening as well as access to treatment for patients in Quebec and across the country, including the CCAC’s success in convincing Quebec and all other provinces to implement colorectal cancer screening programs. As of autumn 2010, all ten provinces have vocalized their intentions of launching similar programs, with several permanent programs already running successfully. “Getyourbuttseen is designed to provoke vigorous conversation around a cancer that is not easily talked about. Whether it is our viral campaign www.getyourbuttseen.ca, our posters on the back of buses, or our new Runway Gala, we literally want people to get out there and be seen and create a conversation around colorectal cancer. Our fashionable butts have been a hit worldwide on the internet and we believe that the fashion industry is ready to embrace this cause that is being highlighted across the country in provincial screening programs. The valuable support shown by the fashion industry for this event will encourage people to talk about the disease and how it can be prevented. We know that starting the conversation is the first step in getting people to be screened and saving thousands of lives. This is after all the second biggest cancer killer in the country for men and women combined and it is 90% preventable and curable if caught in its early stages,” said CCAC President and CEO Barry D. Stein. Tickets to the exclusive event are available at the price of $350 per person, or $3,000 per table of ten. To buy tickets, contact the CCAC’s Event & Communications Director Lydia Moreyne at 1-800-50-COLON (26566). Information provided both in English and French is available on the CCAC website www.colorectal- cancer.ca as well as in print form, free of charge. CCAC information is distributed to patients, physicians, hospitals, health clinics and institutions across the country. In order to support its educational efforts, the CCAC holds free public information sessions and partners with various cancer centers, agencies and Ministries of Health. A first in Canada, in 2007, the CCAC held the first of its biannual Colorectal Cancer Round Table Conferences, bringing together medical and health professionals from across the country to help inform and guide the CCAC’s strategic efforts and to enhance networking between professionals. The CCAC succeeded in ensuring greater collaboration and a consensus in colorectal cancer screening, treatment, support and advocacy. The 2007 Round Table in partnership with the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer led to the establishment of the Colorectal Cancer Screening Network. The second, held in 2009 was based on determining the future of Colorectal Cancer Care and Treatment in Canada and helps guide the CCAC’s strategic efforts and policy. Creating consensus statements with health professionals for treatment standards is a new initiative created by the CCAC. By bringing together a multi-disciplinary group of health professionals to discuss treatment guidelines annually, the CCAC is helping to raise the standard of care for treatment of the disease across the country. The CCAC had its first consensus statement published in Current Oncology
