Direct Relief relies entirely on private contributions. In Fiscal Year 2018 (July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018), nearly 95,000 individuals, companies, and foundations gave in-kind and cash contributions to Direct Relief. Businesses and organizations provided products and expertise needed and leveraged for humanitarian purposes, and generous cash donations helped keep Direct Relief independent from external interests, maintaining the flexibility of its work.     Report on The Transparency of Relief Organizations Responding to the 2010 Haiti Earthquake Citizen Oversight Requires Citizen Engagement 1 About Disaster Accountability Project (DAP) The Disaster Accountability Project (DAP) is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization committed to: • improving disaster management systems through policy research and advocacy; • promoting transparency and engaging citizens to become more involved in preparedness and relief; • and helping to ensure that people know what is happening on the ground during a disaster. What We Do Founded in 2007 in reaction to the bungled response to Hurricane Katrina, DAP has demonstrated that dedicated and informed oversight can help ensure that government agencies and nonprofit organizations live up to their life-saving obligations before, during, and after crises. Our History Over the past few years, members of Congress, the news media, and emergency management practitioners have requested and utilized the research and real-time information collected by DAP. For a young organization, DAP has had an out-sized and far-reaching impact (as reported by ABC News, the Associated Press, the New Orleans Times-Picayune, and the Chronicle of Philanthropy, among others). Some of these accomplishments include: • Investigating and authoring a report on how accessible and up-to-date the emergency plans in twenty-two hurricane-vulnerable Louisiana parishes were; this report prompted many parishes to update and improve the public accessibility of their plans. • Conducting a successful campaign to compel FEMA to comply with federal law and elevate the position of FEMA Disability Coordinator, so that she has more authority and resources available to fulfill the position's mandate.

Moorthy All rights reserved ABSTRACT A Seal of Faith: Rereading Paul on Circumcision, Torah, and the Gentiles Asha K. Moorthy It is generally held that the Apostle Paul dismissed the rite of circumcision for Gentiles. This dissertation, however, offers a different perspective. Through examination of relevant sources regarding the role of circumcision in conversion along with consideration of Philo of Alexandria’s depiction of Abraham as an exemplar of and for the proselyte, this project will suggest that Paul, in Rom 4:11‐ 12, uses the example of Abraham in order to explain the value of circumcision for Jews as well as for Gentiles. It will be argued, moreover, that Paul’s objections to circumcision, as found in Romans as well as in Galatians, Philippians, and 1 Corinthians, were not to the rite per se but rather to the notion that circumcision was necessary for entering the Abrahamic covenant, “becoming a Jew,” justification, salvation, spiritual transformation, protection or identity in Christ. A case will be made, moreover, that in Paul’s day there were two competing forms of circumcision and that Paul was opposed to the more radical procedure. Finally, divergences in Paul’s handling of the topic of circumcision in different letters will be explained through attention to particular audience concerns.     Diabetes Close Up December supplement, 2005, No. 53 J&J To Buy Animas in Sublime Strategic Play T h e S h o r t e r V e r s i o n From the Editor: J&J’s LifeScan announced December 16 that it intends to buy Animas Corporation for $518 million in cash, or $24.50/share, a 35% premium over Animas’ closing price the 15th. We think this acquisition makes very good strategic sense – essentially, it’s the #1 glucose monitoring company buying the #2 pump player. In many respects, this was a classic J&J deal – Animas is newly profitable this year, the deal is immediately accretive, and it offers J&J an excellent leg up as it enters the pump market. Too, J&J had owned ~10% of Animas for some time. Now, while Animas is #2, it is still far behind leader Medtronic MiniMed, whose new(ish) leader, successful cardiac surgery veteran Bob Guezuraga has really impressed the diabetes community. Smart, ambitious, and seemingly hyper-focused, he appears very serious about taking the business to the next level and leaving success in diabetes as his legacy. What could be better for patients than significant focus industry-wide on better physiologic delivery? As competition heightens, we expect innovation to move faster – all good, from a patient perspective. Details on the acquisition are below – what J&J gets, what Animas gets, and what’s next.
