SIZE DEFINITIONS: F = Currently in flower (single spike unless otherwise noted) B = In bud (single spike unless otherwise noted) SP = In spike, just initiating to medium spike stage (no buds showing yet) BS = Blooming size (should flower in season) NBS = Near blooming size (approximately 1-2 years to flowering) S = about 2-3 years to flowering PHAL SPECIES: Most of these Phalaenopsis species are from Taiwan & were sibbed or selfed using very select parents PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. amabilis (4N) B/F $ 48 Limited (TETRAPLOID FORM of Species) 2 spikes ! A dynamite sibbing of this favorite of all Phal. species ! This population is a 4” pot tetraploid form, producing more compact leaves and beautifully round flowers with great substance, producing a long-lasting display with a much smaller footprint than is typical for the species. Gracefully cascading spikes make for a stunning display ! PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. appendiculata BS $ 68 Limited (MICRO-MINIATURE Species) Rarely available ~ and often thought difficult to grow ~ this sibbing from a nursery in Taiwan renown for its species is a much stronger grower than those available which have been jungle collected ! A micro-miniature, these plants are happily growing in small moss pots and are showing the vigor achieved by sibbing and selfing of select clones of this species. Although many growers choose to mount them, we have found they’re just as happy in a pot ~ we allow them to dry somewhat between waterings since they don’t like constantly wet feet. Grow under lower Phalaenopsis light conditions ~ shadier and a little cooler is the secret to success with these ! ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! JIAHO NURSERIES, TAIWAN Phal. bellina BS $ 65 Limited (Sib Cross of FRAGRANT Species) This sib cross of everyone’s favorite Phal. species comes from a nursery in Taiwan known for its amazing species breeding ! They have chosen two select forms of Phal. bellina to create a much improved generation of this fragrant species. Color will be more intense and form will be much rounder ~ all on compact spikes with beautifully compact wavy leaves ! FRAGRANT ! ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! JIAHO NURSERIES, TAIWAN Phal. bellina fma. alba BS $ 95 Limited (Sib Cross of FRAGRANT Species) These are the pure alba forms of Phal. bellina, bearing waxy white fragrant flowers with a hint of green around their segments ! A true Phal. collector’s plant and rarely available in this color form. FRAGRANT ! ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! JIAHO NURSERIES, TAIWAN PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. cornu-cervi BS $ 95 fma. chattaladae Limited (the true chattaladae !) (Rare color form of Species – Sib cross from Dr. David Grove made from the original species) This is the genuine chattaladae form of Phal. cornu-cervi from David Grove, owner of the only known plant of this variety. NOTE: There are other red forms of Phal. cornu-cervi being offered – but they are actually fma. rubescens or a cross between fma. rubescens and possibly fma. chattaladae….all showing a hint of yellow in their lateral sepals and most with a yellow back to the flowers. Fma. chattaladae has a totally solid red back to its flowers with no hint of yellow anywhere except the very tips of the lateral sepals & it retains its solid red color, even on the fading flowers, whereas fma. rubescens will begin to show yellow as the flowers fade. BS $ 48 Phal. hieroglyphica Limited fma. alba (RARE Color Form of Species: ‘Golden Promise’ AM/AOS x self) The rare alba form of Phal. hieroglyphica which we find much more charming than the common white & burgundy form. For an alba form these have been extremely vigorous growers & a few from this group have flowered already. Always leave the previously flowered spike on the plant since they do tend to add additional buds while making a new spike or two. ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE BS $ 48 Phal. javanica Limited (Species: ‘Montclair’ x self) Not often available, this strain is the result of a sibbing of two select forms. Very compact pendulous spikes produce small flowers cascading over or between compact round leaves. Again, we’ve found this species does better in our greenhouses when grown a little cooler & shadier at a lower bench level. MINIATURE SPECIES ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! JIAHO NURSERIES, TAIWAN BS $ 48 Phal. lindenii Mounted (Species) Limited The result of sibbing two select clones of this rarely available species, its beautifully mottled leaves provide a backdrop for gracefully cascading spikes of small white or peppermint-striped flowers, beautifully accented with pink striping & a bright pink flush in the lip. Grow cooler & shadier. ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! Phal. mariae BS $ 45 (Rarely Available Species) Limited This species has all but disappeared in cultivation. Unfortunately, many plants found their way into this country mislabeled as Phal. mariae when they were actually Phal. bastianii. Phal. mariae is easily recognized by its gently cascading flower spikes, a slightly more cupped flower and bold blotching on its creamy-white background. We’ve already flowered a few from this population last July & it is the TRUE Phal. mariae. Will re-flower from old spikes in addition to producing new. FRAGRANT ! ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. speciosa var. christiana BS $ 48 ’C#1’ JC/AOS (Species) Limited A great two-tone color form of this species which each flower expressing its red in a different pattern, each flower being a wonderful surprise ! Its expression of red varies according to light & temperature with cooler temperatures & brighter light producing an increased amount of red in the flowers. Previously flowered spikes often tend to remain green and will continue to form buds and flowers as the plant creates new flower spikes. Fully mature plants with several spikes in flower at the same time create quite a stunning display of color ! FRAGRANT ! Phal. sumatrana BS $ 42 (‘Jiaho Green Giant’ x self) Limited Seedlings from a highly select green form of this easy growing species ! Producing delightfully fragrant long-lasting flowers from late spring into the fall, it has been producing large, up to 7cm, flowers. The next generation of vastly improved forms of this species from a nursery renown for exceptional sibbings and selfings of Phalaenopsis species ! FRAGRANT ! ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! JIAHO NURSERIES, TAIWAN Phal. violacea fma. Malaysia BS $ 48 (Species) Beautiful fragrance, beautiful leaves, Limited stunning flowers ! A summer to fall bloomer, this sibbing has produced flowers ranging in color from pink to rich magenta. A result of mating two select forms of the species, this form of Phal. violacea is not often available. Grow under lower light conditions than that for Phalaenopsis hybrids and keep evenly moist (not wet) for your best flowering. A “must have” for any Phal. species collection ! FRAGRANT ! ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! JIAHO NURSERIES, TAIWAN MULTIFLORAL MINIATURES & COMPACT-GROWING BRIGHTLY COLORED NOVELTIES: Again, most of these clones are the result of the excellent Taiwanese breeding programs. Many of the plants below were hand-picked from select nurseries over the last several years on our annual trips to Taiwan. PLEASE NOTE: With many of the harlequins & the red or orange novelties, differences in light & temperature at various times of the year will cause some variation to occur in the flower color and/or intensity of their markings. Under warmer temperatures & more shaded conditions in the summer, many red hybrids with yellow or orange in their breeding background will flower showing more of those colors.
