Prenant ses sources dans l’Atlas, il traverse la gra.nde plaine du Tadla, fertile mais aride, puis la région agricole des Doukkala, a.vant de se jeter dans l’océan. Depuis 1929 ce jleuve, source de richesses agricoles et énergétiques, a vu l’équipement hydraulique de son bassin se développer sans cesse.
