However, if you need to make arrangements to pay for your purchase please see one of the Boat Auction Committee members or Y Staff. All boats and merchandise available for auction have been donated, as is, to the Y. The Y has limited knowledge of the condition of the boats, etc. and has shared that information with the bidders. The Y is not able to accept any responsibility for the condition of the items sold. NAVIGATION RULES CONDITIONS OF SALE In most cases, there is an established a Reserve Price on donated items in this Auction. This is a confidential, conservative price arrived at in consultation with the Boat Auction Committee and a comparison of market values for similar boats. Please note: This Reserve Price is usually below the Estimated Market Value , which is supplied only as a guideline for all Bidders at this Auction. Whereas the Y would like to sell all the Boats/Items presented at the Auction, this is not an Absolute Auction. All items do not have to be sold; nor is it a Yard Sale: live and absentee bidding is encouraged. Consequently, any item can be “retired” by the Auctioneer on behalf of the Y. This is termed a Reserve Auction in the State of Maine. When an item is “retired,” the Y reserves the right to offer it for sale via various means3 at its disposal. The Y reserves the right to sell a boat or item, before or after the day of the auction if, at the sole discretion of the Y, making such a sale would benefit the Y. There are no Boats/Equipment/Items at this Auction “On Consignment.” All items have been donated to the Y and are up for competitive bidding and none is from other sources. BIDDER’S NOTICE When the Y has been informed or discovers relevant information about a boat or an engine, we will tell you what we have been told. But we do not guarantee the condition or the accuracy of information reported about any boat or item. All appraisals are today’s Estimated Market Values for this Auction. These prices are only guidelines; however, they tend to be lower than average for similar boats being offered elsewhere at this time. All items on this Inventory List will be offered for bid today, unless otherwise noted on the list or announced by the Auctioneer. If no one bids on a particular item, the item will be retired from the Auction and sold privately outside this Auction. Some items have Reserve (Minimum) Prices. If these minimums are not met, the Y reserves the right to retire the boat/items from the Auction and to sell it privately outside the Auction. We ask that people not intending to bid, step back from the front rows so that those who are bidding can see and hear the Auctioneer, and so that we may also hear and see those trying to bid. The Auctioneer can only recognize bidders that he can see. Please interrupt the Auctioneer at any time with your questions or requests for clarification. We want you to enjoy yourselves and buy a boat. ABSENTEE BIDS OR PRE-AUCTION Absentee Bids are encouraged. These bids, are recorded and will be presented by the Auctioneer, who, during the Auction process will clearly point to himself as a participating Absentee Bidder…calling aloud that participating Absentee Bid. POST-AUCTION PURCHASES OF ITEMS Sealed bids can be submitted for any boats that remain unsold at the conclusion of the live auction. The Boat Auction Committee will consider sealed bids the week after the auction and if accepted the bidder will be notified. In the case of multiple bidders with the same price on the same item, bidders will be asked to submit another bid in writing and (the Y will provide forms for doing this) by a determined time. The main, working jib and spinnaker sails are approximately 10 years old. The standing rigging is serviceable There is a 2003 Tohatsu longshaft 6hp outboard with alternator. Also includes a Ritchie compass, Garmin knot meter and depth finder. NOTE: THE MOTOR HAS BEEN STARTED AND RUNS. DIMENSION R5 RIVER RUNNER 13’ EMV: $300 - $600 This versatile entry-level River Running Kayak is equally at home on flat water. A good choice for an all-around kayak on lakes and rivers, it is very stable and can accommodate up to 250 lbs. The 13’ length provides improved hull speed, making the River Runner a good choice when you have a greater distance to cover. 2001 STARCRAFT ALUMINUM 16’ EMV: $1500 - $2500 This 16’ Starcraft aluminum camp boat is and has a 2001 Nissan 30hp engine with an estimated 125 hours last serviced in 2010. There is a 1997 Shorelander trailer with bearing and tires in very good condition. Also, there is a Ritchie compass, Lorance depth sounder and a VHF radio antenna. NOTE: THE NISSAN 30HP ENGINE HAS BEEN STARTED AND RUNS. 5 2000 WAYFARER CLASS 15’ DINGHY EMV: $1250 - $1750 Built by Abbott Boats in Canada, this MARK III fiberglass sailing dinghy is 15’10”. It has center boarder keel with tiller steering. The rigging is in excellent shape. The main, genoa and working jib sails are 17 years old and made by Doyle Boston Sailmaker. Also includes a 2000 Marine Cradle Shop trailer. PILOT SAILING DINGHY 9’ “CLONTARF” EMV: $500 - $900 This fiberglass sailing dinghy is 9’ and has centerboard keel and tiller steering. The rigging is in excellent shape and includes a main sail. Also included: rudder, tiller, oars, spars/sails and outboard bracket. GRABNER HOLIDAY II INFLATABLE EMV: TBD The bottom is inured to grounding, and Sister Ship thanks to little draught it is able to operate in shallow waters. Bow is reinforced by strong plastic rail. There is luggage stowage below decks at the bow and stern. The narrow inflated corrugate bottom tubes are comfortable to sit and to lie back on.     Stern-Mounted Rudder (Edited from Wikipedia) SUMMARY A rudder is a primary control surface used to steer a ship, boat, submarine, hovercraft, aircraft, or other conveyance that moves through a fluid medium (generally air or water). On an aircraft the rudder is used primarily to counter adverse yaw and p-factor and is not the primary control used to turn the airplane. A rudder operates by redirecting the fluid past the hull (watercraft) or fuselage, thus imparting a turning or yawing motion to the craft. In basic form, a rudder is a flat plane or sheet of material attached with hinges to the craft's stern, tail, or after end. Often rudders are shaped so as to minimize hydrodynamic or aerodynamic drag. On simple watercraft, a tiller—essentially, a stick or pole acting as a lever arm—may be attached to the top of the rudder to allow it to be turned by a helmsman. In larger vessels, cables, pushrods, or hydraulics may be used to link rudders to steering wheels. In typical aircraft, the rudder is operated by pedals via mechanical linkages or hydraulics. HISTORY Generally, a rudder is "part of the steering apparatus of a boat or ship that is fastened outside the hull", that is denoting all different types of oars, paddles, and rudders.[1] More specifically, the steering gear of ancient vessels can be classified into side-rudders and stern-mounted rudders, depending on their location on the ship. A third term, steering oar, can denote both types. In a Mediterranean context, side-rudders are more specifically called quarter-rudders as the later term designates more exactly the place where the rudder was mounted.

    Cole Yacht Club Sailing Fleet Flying Junior The International FJ is a doublehanded, ISAF International Class, trapeze planing dinghy. It is small, light and fast, suitable for virtually any combination of skipper and crew, from couples, to parent/child teams, and siblings. The FJ is very a competitive one-design boat, meeting strict Class Rules. The fact that the FJ is a one-design means that the boats are raced boat for boat, without handicapping. The light weight of the boat, combined with the trapeze as a hiking aid, means that a small crew can sail the FJ very effectively, and the relatively small size of the spinnaker is ideally suited to less-experienced or younger crews as well. Many one-designs are "builder's classes", meaning that the builder controls the boat, and has the sole right to build and sell that particular Class. This means the boats usually qualify to be legal in the Class simply by being made by that builder. In fact, as the tooling or molds wear out, later hulls are different than the originals-- are they faster, or slower?? Who knows? It is a less precise way to ensure compliance with Class Rules. Examples of Builder's classes are: JY-15, Vanguard 15, Flying Scot, Capri 14, Lido 14, Wayfarer, etc. The International FJ, on the other hand, can be built by any yard, or even a private builder. Each boat is "Measured" after building, thus ensuring boats are built closer to the original design. The boats are not "FJs" until this Measurement process is complete.
