I’ve worked at the Language Services of the University of Barcelona since 1995. I’m from Badalona, a big town near Barcelona. I work as a teacher. Introductory courses in Catalan Language are one of the essential parts of the UB’s reception programme for visiting students and I have always enjoyed very much teaching these, as I consider them to be a very good way of welcoming the students who come from all over the word. Each language is a unique window on the world and there is a special commu- nion between the participants in the simple and wonderful event that is the act of teaching and learning languages. I do my work with enthusiasm and with affection for the students because I was also once a young woman in a foreign country and I fully understand the feelings of these young people being in that space between the enthusiasm of discovery and the strangeness of being in a country that is not yours. Although in the last two years I have taken on other duties apart from teaching, like the management and Organization of courses, I still consider myself mainly a teacher: I like teaching, I like young people, I like the university environment.
