Media Release Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Films’ Super 30 to release on 23rd Nov, 2018 Directed by Vikas Bahl, “Super 30” will star Hrithik Roshan Mumbai, November 4, 2017: Anil D. Ambani led Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Films’ “Super 30” directed by Vikas Bahl and starring Hrithik Roshan in the lead role will release on 23rd November 2018. Super 30 is a story of a mathematics genius from a modest family in Bihar, Anand Kumar, who was told that only a king’s son can become a king. But he went on to prove how one poor man could create some of the world’s most genius minds. Anand Kumar’s training program is so effective that students post cracking IIT have gone on to become some of the most successful professionals. Many students trained under the Super 30 program have joined some of the top global companies like Adobe, Samsung Research Institute, Amazon etc. Anand Kumar said, “I trust Vikas Bahl with my life story and I believe that he will make a heartfelt film. I am a rooted guy so I feel some level of emotional quotient is required to live my life on screen. I have seen that in Hrithik – on and off screen. I have full faith in his capabilities.” Vikas Bahl, truly inspired by Anand Kumar’s initiative, said, “Super 30 is a story of the struggles of those genius kids who have one opportunity and how those 30 amongst thousands of others redefine success. The film will focus on the Super 30 program that Kumar started, which trains 30 IIT aspirants to crack its entrance test.” Vikas Bahl is one of the most critically and commercially acclaimed directors of our country.

  • Political Sociology of Poverty in India: Between Politics of Poverty and Poverty of Politics1
Anand Kumar 144 3 Political Sociology of Poverty In India: Between Politics of Poverty and Poverty of Politics1 Anand Kumar Although relative differentials exist, absolute deprivation is high in most parts of rural India. For example, about half the population of rural India is illiterate and suffers from ‘capability poverty’; about 40 per cent have extremely low incomes. Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Rajasthan and West Bengal are the most backward states. - India Human Development Report (1999) In 1993-94, when slightly less than 40 per cent of all Indians were below the poverty line, the proportion was 54 per cent for the Scheduled Tribes and 50 per cent for the Scheduled Castes. Though the tribals of India are only about 8 per cent of the total population, they accounted for 40 per cent of the internally displaced population, another major characteristics of poverty. - National Commission on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (2002) Human attainments appear to be better and more sustained in those parts of the country where there is social mobilisation for human development, and where female literacy and empowerment encourages women to have a say in the decision making process at the household level. - National Human Development Report (2001) 1 I am thankful to Prof. David Hulme, Dr. Andrew Shepherd and Prof. Aasha Kapur Mehta for their valuable comments and suggestions on an earlier draft of this paper. 145 Chronic Poverty in India 1. Introduction Political sociology of poverty requires an analysis of the relationship between the political, economic and socio-cultural actors, institutions and processes in the context of poverty.

All students of 'Super 30' coaching centre crack IIT- JEE hindustantimes.com /india-news/all-students-of-super-30-coaching-centre-crack-iit-jee/article1- 548886.aspx All 30 students of Super 30, a free coaching centre in Bihar, have cracked the highly competitive Indian Institute of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) for the third consecutive year, the institute announced Wednesday. Advertisement "We are really upbeat and celebrating the 100 per cent success for the third consecutive year as all 30 students have cracked the IIT-JEE this year," Anand Kumar, the institute's director-cum-founder, said. Super 30 that helps economically backward students crack the IIT-JEE has been selected by the Time magazine in the list of The Best of Asia 2010. The magazine, in its latest issue, said that every year, about 230,000 students take the exam for a seat in the IITs but only 5,000 grab it. "Last year, 30 of them came from one coaching centre in Patna, capital of the impoverished north Indian state of Bihar. That may not seem like many, but for the Super 30 centre it's a pass rate of 100 percent," it said. Mohammad Sadab Azam, a student of Super 30, said: "Thanks to Super 30, I cracked the IIT-JEE. Everyone is in a celebratory mood. We are happy." Azam, whose father works as a labourer in a village in Gaya district, said that he had never dreamt of cracking the prestigious exam. "It was all because of Super 30," he said. Anup Kumar, another Super 30 student, said the facilities and encouragement from the faculty made it possible for him to crack the tough exam.

Written by a group which has been researching chronic poverty for several years, the Report goes back to speeches made in the Constituent Assembly at time of Independence and reminds us that promises made then on the ‘fight to end poverty, squalor, ignorance and disease’ still remain unfulfilled. It draws attention to the gaps between actual achievements in this regard and constitutional provisions regarding equitable development. Given that the Eleventh Plan focus was to make “growth faster and more inclusive”, and that in this context efforts were also made to impart a “rights approach” in some major anti-poverty schemes, the Report is a reminder of the long-haul nature of India’s development promises.

  • India-Maldives Relations: Is the Rough Patch Over?
Indian Foreign Affairs Journal Vol. 11, No. 2, April–June 2016, 153-167 India-Maldives Relations: Is the Rough Patch Over? Anand Kumar* The ‘neighbourhood’ has always been an important aspect of India’s foreign policy. It was recently emphasised by the present government through its ‘neighbourhood first’ policy. Within this construct, India-Maldives relations have come into focus due to many reasons - the most glaring of which is the fact that while PM Modi has visited all neighbouring countries, many within the first year of assuming office, he is yet to visit Malé. After independence from Britain in 1965, Maldives’ relationship with India has generally been stable. However, this situation has changed somewhat in the last few years, especially after the removal of Mohamed Nasheed from power in February 2012 which led to a complex power play in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). India has been trying hard to regain stability in its bilateral relations with the Maldives; but the rough patch seems far from being completely over. Maldives is an archipelagic nation, situated in the middle of the Indian Ocean. It is located 300 miles from the southern coast of India and 450 miles southwest of Sri Lanka. It consists of 1,192 islands, of which nearly 200 are inhabited. With a population of about 350,000, it is one of the most dispersed countries in the world. It is a low lying nation, and most parts of the country are barely a meter above sea level. This makes Maldives very vulnerable to the phenomenon of climate change and sea level rise.
