A Numerical Taxonomy of the Genus Rosularia (Dc.) Stapf from Pakistan and Kashmir

STAPF FROM PAKISTAN AND KASHMIR GHULAM RASOOL SARWAR* AND MUHAMMAD QAISER Centre for Plant Conservation, University of Karachi, Karachi-75270, Pakistan Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi, Pakistan Abstract Numerical analysis of the taxa belonging to the genus Rosularia (DC.) Stapf was carried out to find out their phenetic relationship. Data from different disciplines viz. general, pollen and seed morphology, chemistry and distribution pattern were used. As a result of cluster analysis two distinct groups are formed. Out of which one group consists of R. sedoides (Decne.) H. Ohba and R. alpestris A. Boriss. while other group comprises R. adenotricha (Wall. ex Edgew.) Jansson ssp. adenotricha , R. adenotricha ssp. chitralica, G.R. Sarwar, R. rosulata (Edgew.) H. Ohba and R. viguieri (Raym.-Hamet ex Frod.) G.R. Sarwar. Distribution maps of all the taxa, along with key to the taxa are also presented. Introduction studied the genus Rosularia and indicated that the genus is polyphyletic. Mayuzumi & Ohba (2004) analyzed the Rosularia is a small genus composed of 28 species, relationships within the genus Rosularia. According to distributed in arid or semiarid regions ranging from N. different workers Rosularia is polyphyletic. Africa to C. Asia through E. Nat. Croat. Vol. 27, No. 2, 407- 420*, 2018, Zagreb. In this paper, the plant lists of glasshouse succulents grown in the Botanical Garden from 1895 to 2017 are studied. Synonymy, nomenclature and origin of plant material were sorted. The lists of species grown in the last 122 years are constructed in such a way as to show that throughout that period at least 1423 taxa of succulent plants from 254 genera and 17 families inhabited the Garden’s cold glass- house collection. Rezultati pokazuju kako je tijekom 122 godine kroz zbirku mesnatica hladnog staklenika prošlo najmanje 1423 svojti iz 254 rodova i 17 porodica. -

Based on recent phylogenetic and morphological studies in Crassulaceae family, genus Prometheum was considered as independent genus. So far, two species viz. P. pilosum (under Sedum pilosum), and P. sempervivoides (under S. sempervivoides) has been reported from Iran. These two species and the new report are specific to mountains regions and they mostly occur at elevation above 2000 m.s.l. in the northwest of Iran (West and East Azerbaijan provinces). A short discussion on the taxonomic history of the genus Prometheum and the relative species, description, distribution, illustration, ecology and a key for existing three Iranian species is provided. Leaves mostly in dense, basal rosettes, usually with several rosettes per plant, alternate, sessile, flat. Flowering stems often several, arising from axils of rosette leaves (or solitary and arising from center of rosette); stem leaves alternate. Inflorescence lateral, cymose-corymbiform, paniculate-corymbiform, or spicate-paniculate, lax to dense. Flowers bisexual, 5–9-merous. Sepals connate at base. Corolla pink or white, sometimes with red or purple markings, campanulate or cupular; lobes partly connate at base, limb erect to spreading, membranous. Stamens 2 × as many as petals, inserted above corolla base, ca. 2 × as long as petals. Nectar scales cuneate to cuneate-spatulate-quadrate. Carpels erect, free, often hairy. LIVING COLLECTIONS MANAGEMENT PLAN Updated and Approved: November 28, 2017 Previously Updated and Approved: August 2008 Living Collections Plan - Page 1 of 53 LIVING COLLECTIONS MANAGEMENT PLAN October, 2017 Purpose of the Plan The Living Collections at Denver Botanic Gardens support the Gardens’ mission of connecting people with plants, especially plants from the Rocky Mountain Region and similar regions around the world. Collections showcase the use of right plants in the right place, educating the public about horticulture in the semi-arid, steppe climate of the Rocky Mountain and Plains regions. The diverse collections ranging from alpine to tropical plants fulfill the mission through education and conservation messages, and by “providing delight and enlightenment to everyone”. Adhering to the standards and guidelines articulated in the Living Collections Management Policy, this Plan provides staff taking care of these collections coordinated and uniform direction to assist in the maintenance, expansion, refinement and development of the collections over the specified period of time. Collections Content The Living Collections are comprised of seven major collections: 1. Alpine 2. Amenity 3. Aquatic 4. Cactus and Succulents 5. Native 6. Steppe 7. Tropical In addition to these seven major collections, the living collections also comprises of a growing Bonsai collection (included under Amenity Collection) and two nationally accredited collections registered with the American Public Gardens Association Plant Collection Network – Quercus (Oak) collection and Alpines of the World collection. Guiding Principles The acquisition and care of the collections will be guided by the Gardens’ four core values: • Diversity • Relevance • Sustainability • Transformation Review and Revision of the Plan The Collections Management Plan will be reviewed as needed at a minimum of every five years to assess the implementation of the priorities and activities specified herein and determine measures to overcome challenges in achieving them.
