ML is the ability of a computer to either automate or recommend appropriate actions by applying probability to data with a feedback loop that enables learning. We view ML as a subset of artificial intelligence (AI), which represents a broad collection of tools that include/leverage ML, such as natural language processing (NLP), self-driving cars, and robotics as well as some that are tangent to ML, such as logical rule-based algorithms. Although there have been multiple “AI Winters” since the 1950s where hype cycles were followed by a dearth of funding, ML is now an enduring innovation driver, in our opinion, due in part to the increasing ubiquity of affordable cloud-based processing power, data storage—we expect the pace of breakthroughs to accelerate. automation, customer support, marketing, and human resources) through both organic and M&A These innovations will make it easier for companies initiatives. Getting Started in Sim Racing Primer You are interested in simulation racing (sim racing) but you don't know where to start or how to get started. The purpose of this primer is to provide a good starting point for you to use to make the plunge. Like real world racing, sim racing provides the excitement of driving door-to-door competition. Also like real world racing you can spend a small amount of money getting started and as you progress in experience and increased interest, you can spend a significant amount. Sim racing is "scalable", which is good because as your experience and interest grows, there are more and better hardware and software options available to you. Sim Racing Software Titles Popular software sim racing titles are Assetto Corsa, Project Cars 2, RaceRoom Racing Experience, DiRT Rally 2, Automobilista, rFactor 2, and the most popular and most followed title, iRacing.com. For the second half of 2019, PCA Sim Racing will continue to use the iRacing sim platform. The pricing varies considerably and you can spend as little as $35 USD or much more depending on the title. A suggestion. Look at the recommended column. The minimum requirements are really minimum and most drivers will not be comfortable with the low end settings very long. Sim Racing Hardware To get started, you will need a recent game console (Sony Playstation 4, Microsoft Xbox One) or a moderately powered Microsoft Windows 10 based PC computer. I am highly interested in neural network architectures augmented with memory and attention mechanisms. My recent research deals with image synthesis and visually-grounded multi-modal dialogue systems, which stand to gain significant advantage from using memory and attention similar to how we as humans do. Prior to this, I have worked on visual attention models for action recognition and video description. I have broad interests in deep learning research in natural language processing and computer vision, which I believe are important research areas on the path to true artificial intelligence. What happens to the idea after that is a long, slow, sometimes brilliant, sometimes difficult process of kneading and shaping, moulding and smoothing, trying and failing, observing and ex- perimenting, before the idea takes on any sort of tangible presence in the real world. If Freeplay in 2010 was about looking out at the much wider world of play and how it connects with videogames, culture, art, education, and society, then Freeplay in 2011 is about looking at the individual and their role in not only the development of an idea into a game, but also in the individual's role in poli- tics, in culture, in creativity, and in a wider artistic sphere. To do that, we've widened the scope of the festival, introducing a new Playful Program that we hope takes games out into the streets and bars of Melbourne, we've created a new Interview Series to dig into what makes some of our most prominent creatives tick. We've brought back the awards to celebrate the best in local independent development, and we've built a conference program that tries to draw together a unique mix of developers, artists, students, educators, critics, and players.
