Old Line State Herald MDSSAR, Founded on April 20, 1889 at Annapolis, Maryland www.marylandsar.org State President James F. Engler, Sr. February 2016 Issue January Board Meeting IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR THE CHAPTERS IN THE MARYLAND SOCIETY. Several important issues were voted on at the State Meeting in January at the meeting of the Board of Officers and Managers of the Maryland Society: Every chapter has to file a Form 990-N with the Internal Revenue Service each year. This filing is done online, and it is a simple and easy process. If the Form 990-N is not filed on a timely basis, the chapter’s tax exempt charter/status under the Maryland Society umbrella could be jeopardized. If this happens, the chapter must reapply for a tax exempt status and be independent of the Maryland Society, and this is a time consuming and expensive process. It is recommended this filing take place in May of each year, but it can be done at any time. Please notify MDSSAR Treasurer Gary R. Neal when you complete the 990-N filing. His email address is

In accordance with Article IV, Section 5 of the MDSSAR Bylaws, “Each chapter shall, by the fifteenth day of March in each year, submit a report of the financial condition and activities for the preceding twelve months, and such reports shall be incorporated in the annual reports of the State Society.” This financial condition report is to be sent MDSSAR Treasurer Gary R. Neal at
