MEDIA CONTACT: Fred Tracey Marketing/PR Director 760.643.5217 [email protected] Bets Malone Makes Cabaret Debut at ClubM at the Moonlight Amphitheatre on Jan. 13 with One-Woman Show “Broadway the BROAD Way” Download Art Here Vista, CA (January 4, 2018) – Moonlight Amphitheatre’s ClubM opens its 2018 series of cabaret concerts at its intimate indoor venue on Sat., Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. with Bets Malone: Broadway the BROAD Way. Making her cabaret debut, Malone will salute 14 of her favorite Broadway actresses who have been an influence on her during her musical theatre career. The audience will hear selections made famous by Fanny Brice, Carol Burnett, Betty Buckley, Carol Channing, Judy Holliday, Angela Lansbury, Patti LuPone, Mary Martin, Ethel Merman, Liza Minnelli, Bernadette Peters, Barbra Streisand, Elaine Stritch, and Nancy Walker. On making her cabaret debut: “The idea of putting together an original cabaret act where you’re standing on stage for ninety minutes straight has always sounded daunting to me,” Malone said. “I’ve had the idea for this particular cabaret format for a few years. I felt the time was right to challenge myself, and I couldn’t be more proud to debut this cabaret on the very stage that offered me my first musical theatre experience as a nine-year-old in the Moonlight’s very first musical Oliver! directed by Kathy Brombacher.” Malone can relate to the fact that the leading ladies she has chosen to celebrate are all attached to iconic comedic roles. “I learned at a very young age that getting laughs is golden,” she said.

It is unusual in that it has two directors, Didi Hopkins and Selina Cadell, but whoever dis what the have helped to create a wonderful night of intimate theatre. David Tomlinson For a start, as a young man he had a stammer, somewhat of a drawback for an aspiring actor, and he had a difficult relationship with his solicitor father, Clarence, a cold man who preferred to be called CST and who thought David would never amount to much, regularly telling him to his face. David, however, has poor height perception and cannot master his landings. As young and handsome William Green he changed his name to include his first wife's so that it sounded more impressive for the photographic portrait work at which he was so good. David Tomlinson Trivia Follow That Horse! Only then did it dawn on David why his father had suggested he take a stage name when he began to enjoy success as an actor — Clarence had feared the Tomlinson name would become so well-known it might expose his secret. American Studies, University of Massachusetts Boston A Jewish-created urban and cosmopolitan working girl feminism persisted in the 1950s as a cultural alternative to the suburban, domestic consumerism critiqued so eloquently by Betty Friedan in The Feminine Mystique . The film persona of Jewish, Academy Award-winning actress Judy Holliday embodied this working girl feminism. Audiences viewed her portrayals of popular front working girl heroines in three films written by the Jewish writer and director Garson Kanin, sometimes in association with his wife, the actress Ruth Gordon, and directed by the Jewish director George Cukor in the early 1950s: Born Yesterday (1950), The Marrying Kind (1952), and It Should Happen to You (1954).

therapy. It not only reduces the divorce rate among newlyweds, it makes their relationship stronger. Researchers at the University of Rochester studied 174 couples over couples divorce. Couples were randomly assigned to one of three month-long programs: • • compassion training • movie-and-talk required about twenty hours of therapist-supervised lectures and practice sessions, whereas movie-and-talk required half as much time, involved watching movies, and was almost entirely done at home. The end result? All three groups halved the divorce rate of the control group, from 24% to 11%. Incredible, isn’t it? Who knew that discussing a movie could be that powerful for couples? Discussing relationship movies, And it is especially helpful as a way to augment such programs. “For these couples to stop and look and say, ‘You know, I have yelled at you like that before. I have called you names before and that’s not nice. That’s not what I want to do to the person I love the most.’ Just that insight alone, is likely what makes this intervention work,” lead researcher Ronald Rogge said. Is there a catch? Sort of. It can’t be just any movie. It needs to be a romantic comedy – and not just any rom-com. The movie needs to have intimate relationships as a major plot focus. time to portraying the ups and downs of day-to-day life in a committed romantic relationship. Ideally, a movie shows a couple handling some things well and also shows that same couple making some common mistakes in relationships.
