The Rochester Sentinel 1996 Tuesday, January 2, 1996 John W. Sawyer IV Feb. 12, 1912 - Dec. 31, 1995 John Wesley SAWYER IV, 83, 5109 Mt. Zion Road, died at 4 p.m. Sunday at North Broward Medical Center, Pompano Beach, Fla. He was born in Horicon, Wis., to John W. III and Emma BOGDA WINKELMAN SAWYER. On July 10, 1935, in South Bend, he married Rachel HARGRAVE, who survives. He was retired from an automobile dealership in Rochester, and had been a resident of Rochester for 56 years. He was a member of the Manitou Moose Lodge, charter member of the Rochester Lions Club, graduate of Onarga Military Academy, and an avid supporter of American Billiard Championships. Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Cynthia SAWYER, Valparaiso; two sons, Jack and wife Sandy [SAWYER] and Tom and wife Jan [SAWYER], both of Rochester; five grandchildrem, Rob and wife Beth SAWYER; Leah and Nathan SAWYER , both of Rochester; John VI and wife Robin SAWYER and Ann SAWYER, both of Indianapolis; three great- grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. O.W. (Esther) BOGDA, Milwaukee, Wis. Preceding in death were one brother, Ray WINKELMAN; and one sister, Norma SAWYER Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Zimmerman Family Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. David HOGSETT officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery, Rochester Township. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m Wednesday and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Leone Abbott April 18, 1912 - Dec. 31, 1995 Leone ABBOTT, 83, 229 W. Third St., died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Woodlawn Hospital. She was born in Richland Township to Albert and Ethel NEWCOMB McGRIFF. She was married to Harold C. ABBOTT, who died in 1973. She lived her entire life in Fulton and Marshall counties. She owned and operated the former Abbott’s Grocery Store for 35 years. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Evergreen Rebekah Lodge No. 57, and was a 60-year member of the Neighborly Club, all of Rochester. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Doris LEHMAN and Mrs. Jack (Jane) SUMMERS, both of Rochester; one son, Donald and wife Lois ABBOTT, Rochester; five grandchildren, Shane LEHMAN, Rocheter; Lanae ORBIK, Noblesville, Brian and Todd ABBOTT, both of Rochester; and Kevin ABBOTT, Granger; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Charles (Mildred) GOHEE, Culver. Preceding in death were one sister, Florence GIBBONS, 1995; and three brothers, Orville, Roy and Ray [McGRIFF]. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester; with the Revs. David C. HOGSETT and Jeffrey S. TAYLOR officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m today and from 9 a.m. through the hour of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. The Evergeen Rebekah Lodge No. 57 will conduct memorial services at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund or a favorite charity. Dwight G. Beard April 5, 1916 - Dec. 29, 1995 Dwight G. BEARD, 79, 7741 W. Mitchell Drive, Phoenix, Ariz., died Friday in Arizona. He was born to Lloyd and Ruth BEARD. He was a graduate of Purdue University, and spent many years in the family business of Wild Cat Turkey Farm before starting to work for the Farmers Home Administration in 1965. He was a county supervisor for 18 years in Indiana, Nebraska and Arizona. He served as co-pilot of a B-24 Liberator bomber during World War II and achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant. Survvig are his wife, Sue BEARD; four sons, Charles A. BEARD, Jeffrey W ADAMS, Mark T. BEARD, and Timothy Scott BEARD; two daughters, Julia A. HALSMER and Billie GINTHER HOFMANN; grandchidren, Justin and Jessica GINTHER, Michael and Susan HOFMANN, Lisa WATKINS, Kathy CARMICHAEL, Gregory, Peter, Paul and Joseph ADAMS, Scott BEARD and Erica BEARD KNOX, Amanda, Marlena and Robyn HALSMER; Christopher, Jeremy and Stephanie BEARD, and Shaun Wales BEARD, Jessica and Jeremiah CAMPBELL BEARD; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Rhyan ADAMS, Cody Allen KNOX, Bryan WATKINS, and Charlie HOFMANN. Services will be at 11 a.m Wednesday at Christ Presbyterian Church, Phoenix, Ariz. May C. Zumbaugh March 30, 1932 - Jan. 1, 1996 May C. CHERRY ZUMBAUGH, 63, 6127 Flushing Ave., Maspeth Queens, N.Y., died at 1:30 a.m. Monday at Monsigor Fritzpatrick Pavilion, Jamica Queens, N.Y. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Arthur and Anna CHERRY. She was from a family of 10 children. In 1949, in New York, she married Lamar ZUMBAUGH, who died on July 19, 1991. She lived most of her life in New York and was a resident of Rocheter for 10 years. She was a waitress and a homemaker. Survivng are two daughters, Mrs. Ron (Sharon) SIMONS, Rochester; and Mrs. Adair (Tina Marie) SEIDELMAN, Hamlet; two sons, Bruce E. and wife (Melodee) CUNNINGHAM, LeClaire, Iowa; and John A.G. CUNNINGHAM, Grovertown; nine grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren Preceding in death were two rothers. Private services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Mugiel Funeral Home, 6418 Flushig Ave., Maspeth Queens, N.Y. Burial will be in Maspeth Queens, N.Y. Local arrangeets are being handled by Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester. Sarah G. McCoige Oct 2, 1942 - Dec. 31, 1995 Sarah Geneva McCOIGE, 53, 13848 6A Road, Plymouth, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph’s Hospital of Marshall County, Plymouth. She was born in Bullsgap, Tenn., to James E. and Mary HARRISON TALLEY. Her first marriage was to Dennis KEEFE. In July, 1977, in Plymouth, she married David M. McCOIGE, who survives She had been a resident of Plymouth for the past 20 years. She retired from Ristance Products Corp., Argos. Surviving with her husbad are four daughters, Mrs. Fred (Deborah) VOYNOVICH, South Bend; Mrs. Dan (Sherry) HOWE, Logan; Mrs. Leonard (Denise) BETKER, Beloit, Wis; and Mrs. James (Pamela C) SHAMO, Lakeville; two sons, James and wife Sue KEEFE, Plymouth; and Michael and wife Pam McCOIGE, Lapaz; thirteen grandchidre; her mother, Mary TALLEY, Camp Douglas, Wis; six sisters, Rose BURBACH, Shullsburg, Wis; Judy TROTTER, Mesa, Ariz.; Mary WOODWARD, New Lisbon, Wis; Annie MURPHY, Clinton, Wis; Janet PAVIA, Beloit, Wis; and Ava McGONIGLE, Camp Douglas, Wis; and three brothers, Jerry, Roger and Jim TALLEY, all of Beloit, Wis Precedig in death were one sister, Carolyn BRADY; and one brother, Danny TALLEY. Michael Jaros Sept. 24, 1921 - Dec. 30, 1995 Michael JAROS, 74, 5808 W. Quail Road, Mentone, died at 4 a.m. Saturday at 36315 W. Bruner Road, Warsaw. He was born in Lake County to Martin and Josephine KURCAVICH JAROS. He was a boilermaker at Youngstown ?Steel and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Surviving are one brother ad one step-sister. Private graveside services were at 4 p.m. Saturday at Palestine Cemetery, south of Warsaw, with the Rev. Marvine LOWMAN officiatng. Arrangements were handled by King Memorial Home, Mentone. Kenneth I. Lahman March 23, 1932 - Dec. 29, 1995 Kenneth I. LAHMAN, 63, Crown Point, died Friday at the VNA Mary E. Bartz Hospice Center, Valparaiso. He was born in Logansport to Oscar and Katherine ZIMPLEMAN LAHMAN. He was a member of the United Autoworkers Union Local No. 588. Surviving are his wife, Opal L. “Liz” LAHMAN, Crown Point; one daughter, Mrs. Mike (Brenda) POPOVICH, Springfield, Mo; three sons, Kenneth L. LAHMAN, Fairview, Utah; Terry D ad wife Kim LAHMAN, Valparaiso; and Gary G and wife Kathy LAHMAN, Newport, N.C.; his mother, Katherine LAHMAN, Rochester; three brothers, Ronald and wife Kay LAHMAN, Panama City, Fla.; Dean and wife Carol LAHMAN and Michael and wife Marsha LAHMAN, both of Rochester; three sisters, Mrs. Tom (Karen) RUSSELL and Mrs. Don (Susan) SCOTT, both of Valparaiso; and Gail GRAVLEE, Alphreta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; ad many nieces and nephews. Onstott Oct. 30, 1938 - Jan. 1, 1996 Stephen Douglas ONSTOTT, 57, Chicago, Ill., died at 11:15 p.m Monday at Hines VA Hospital, Maywood, Ill He was born in Rocheser to Harry Lee and Ann B ONSTOTT He had been a resident of Chicago since 1958, having come from Rochester. He served in the U.S. Air Force after high school. Surviving are his mother, Ann ONSTOTT, Rochester; three brothers, Paul [ONSTOTT[, Burket, David [ONSTOTT], Athens, Ga., and Jim [ONSTOTT], Rochester; six sisters, Phyllis HEMINGER, Rochester, Phoebe LYKOWSKI, South Bend, Amy ONSTOTT, Chicago, Susan ONSTOTT, Chicago, Helen SLISHER, Rochester, Florence SCOTT, Rochester.
