The passenger business again increased its profi tability thanks, notably, to the reduction in losses in the point-to-point operations. As in previous years, in 2014 air freight was affected by the weakness in global trade and the situation of structural industry overcapacity. The cargo business remained in loss. The maintenance business continued its growth in high-value-added segments (engines and components), signifi cantly improving its profi tability. En ce qui concerne notre fonctionnement interne, nous avons le plaisir d’accueillir deux nouvelles déléguées régionales : Chantal Cellier pour la région Centre, elle succède à Gérard Gabas que je remercie pour ses années de loyaux services, son action et son dévouement. Éliane de la Cruz sera la déléguée de la Guadeloupe qui devient la 23e région de l’ARAF, Éliane devra en assurer sa mise place et veiller à son bon fonctionnement. La première journée régionale Guadeloupe est fixée au 20 novembre 2019. Chers adhérents de Guadeloupe j’espère que vous viendrez nombreux à cette première ! The year 2007 was closed with an overall passenger number of 174,858, which means that growth continues with an increase of over 18% compared to the previous year. However, the number of flight movements declined by about 6% to 51,589.

It has been almost two years since the tragic crash of Germanwings Flight 9525. The cause of the crash was ruled to be co-pilot’s suicide. A huge media frenzy followed the announcement with numerous ’experts’ in aviation, psychology, and every other imaginable field offering their analysis and advice. What has not been mentioned by the media is that the crash was only one of at least six mysterious airplane crashes in the same geographical region: 1) Germanwings Flight 9525 crashed on March 24, 2015 at 9:41 at 44:28oN; 6:44oE 1,2 . After an unprecedentedly short investigation of less then two days3,4 , it was announced that the mentally sick 28-year-old co-pilot Andreas Lubitz barricaded himself inside the cockpit and deliberately rammed the plane into the Alps. But why would the physically fit and smiling 28-year old co-pilot running marathon(s), as shown on the Internet pictures, who just purchased a brand new car, commit suicide? Those who knew him insisted Lubitz was not suicidal5. Many witnesses reported explosion and smoke before the plane plunged into the Alps and debris was found upstream from the crash site suggesting that at least one piece of fuselage had "been detached from the aircraft before impact"6; which can only happen if the plane exploded in the air. 2) Air France Flight 178 crashed on September 1, 1953 at 23:30 Paris time at practically the same place as the previous flight at 44:29oN; 6:7oE 7 amidst violent storms after "the flight had deviated from the planned course for unknown reasons".
