The 2021 recipient of the Actors Equity Foundation Roger Sturtevant Award, Curtis Bannister is praised by TimeOut Magazine as “radiating with slowly simmering energy” and as “quiet revelation” by the L.A. TImes as he continues to establish himself as one of the most dynamic and multi-genre performing artists of his generation in theatre, opera & film.

Mr. Bannister’s 2020/21 schedule began with his debut and joining the Peabody Award-winning Apple TV+ series, DICKINSON, as Marquis for the show’s second season, returned to Chicago Opera Theatre as the Hotel Manager in new opera, THE TRANSFORMATION OF JANE DOE, and in a joint collaboration with Heartbeat Opera NYC, the The Broad Stage in Los Angeles and the Mondavi Center, Curtis is featured in excerpts from Beethoven’s Fidelio (Florestan) and songs by H.T. Burleigh in the visual album, BREATHING FREE, which heightens the Black African American experience; this performance is nominated for the 2021 Drama League Awards. Later in the season, Curtis returns to Chicago Opera Theatre as Baglioni in LA HIJA DE RAPPACCINI, as well as performing with theater and film star, Heather Headley, for the GOODMAN THEATER 2021 Gala and debuts at the TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL in the world premiere feature film “The Conductor”. Later in the season, Curtis returns to MUSIC THEATRE WORKS for the ’s “LEGENDS'' concerts through the summer. Future engagements including TV, film, and stage performances across the country will be announced at a later date.

Bannister’s 2019/20 live performance schedule included his debut with The Philadelphia Orchestra, as Ragotski, in CANDIDE, conducted by Yannick Nezet-Seguin and featuring Bradley Cooper & Carey Mulligan, his debut at the with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as a Street Singer (Celebrant cover) in Bernstein's MASS, covered the role of Reverend Jerome Mitchell for the world premiere of Dan Shore’s FREEDOM RIDE for Chicago Opera Theatre, and returned to the role of Sid Sorokin for his debut with Theatre at the Center in THE PAJAMA GAME. Curtis received rave reviews for his portrayal of Theseus in THE GOSPEL AT COLONUS with Skylight Music Theatre in January 2020, and was noted in the media for his April 2020 FACEBOOK LIVE performance of theater and blues songs for the UNITED PERFORMING ARTS FOUNDATION.

Highlights from previous years include his co-starring as Reimers on NBC’s CHICAGO FIRE, his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra as Ragotski in CANDIDE, and his debut at The Ravinia Festival with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as a Street Singer (Celebrant cover) in Bernstein’s MASS, his return to LYRIC OPERA OF CHICAGO as Set in the company’s Lyric Unlimited series production of THE SCORPION'S STING, his debut with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as Ragotski/Cacambo in CANDIDE (conducted by Marin Alsop), and his international recital debut of Lieder and Spirituals with the MUSIQUES DE CHAMBRE au MUSEE DE LOUVRE. On the theatre stage, Bannister has been seen as Monty in the new world premiere production of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER for The Rev (formerly Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival / Merry-Go-Round Playhouse), Thomas in the pre-Broadway (Broadway in Chicago) production of AMAZING GRACE, his return to Writers Theatre in Jason Robert Brown's PARADE in the roles of Jim Conley, Newt Lee, and Riley, Jamie in Jason Robert Brown’s THE LAST 5 YEARS with the Jedlicka Performing Arts Center, the Celebrant in ’s MASS under the baton of Marin Alsop in Baltimore, Paul in ’s KISS ME, KATE for St. Petersburg Opera, Aaron in Shakespeare’s TITUS ANDRONICUS with Stillpointe Theatre, and the role of Andre for the National Players Tour of AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’ with Olney Theatre Center.
