Round 2 – 15th April 2010 2010 SPONSORS ANZAC DAY 2010 As most of you are aware ANZAC DAY this years falls on a Sunday. Following a directive from the AFL we are allowed to play games on the day as we do not charge for admission. It has become a long weekend but all games are on so please allow your child to play. During the day we will be remembering those who were lost. ROUND ONE WRAP UP Well done to all those teams who played last weekend you looked great in the purple and gold and played in the true spirit of the game. Our U9 Red team at home looked very impressive with a few players we will have to keep an eye on over the next few years, we may have another Jayden Post coming through our ranks. We had mixed results but we can not win every time. So congratulations to our 16C, 14A & 12A teams on a great first round win. To all other teams you will have your time. GO VIKINGS! WESTERN BULLDOGS VISIT For all U9 to U14`s keep Wednesday 9th June free for this is the night we have Western Bulldogs players visiting. The night will include training sessions with the players followed by a Pie Night for dinner. 2010 SPONSORS Thank You Georgia Over the past three seasons we have been very fortunate to have a Mum working very hard each week to get our newsletter out to players. On behalf of all the committee, players and families I would like to thank Georgia Thornton for the incredible job she has done putting the newsletter together each week. Georgia has also been one of our website editors who has helped keep everyone up to date with what has been happening at Altona Juniors. Georgia is not leaving us completely as her son Jai plays in our U13As team, but her own business Bio Bums is growing and needs more of her time - which is a great thing. So if ever you need cloth nappy products jump on you computer and look up www.biobums.com.au and see what she has. Good luck Georgia At last our Youth/Girls team will be taking the field for their round one match up against Old Westbourne on Saturday 17th April 9.15am at JJ Holland Reserve in Kensington. If you are looking for something to do please go and support Lucy and the girls. We wish their coach Lucy all the best in her 2nd season as coach and look forward to seeing a few wins on the board this season. ROUND 2 GAMES – 18th April Under 9 and 10 teams wear purple shorts at all times. Under 11 - 16 teams must wear purple shorts when playing at home and white shorts when playing away. The club would like to welcome its new Administrator and Registrar for 2010. Although she has been with us for a while slowly finding her way, Sandra Wilson has been an exciting new addition to our committee. We hope she enjoys her new role as Registrar. Anne Lisci was recruited as my assistant to do things I was not able to fit in, but her enthusiasm and dedication to getting the job done right has made her the perfect replacement for me as Administrator. Now, it is not always the easiest of tasks but it is rewarding and exciting at times. I hope everyone will make them feel welcome. I thank them both for taking on these roles and know that the club is in good hands. Eleanor FAMILY BBQ Write down Sunday 2nd May on your calendars as the club will be having a family BBQ where ALL players and their families are welcome to attend. We would love to see everyone at the club rooms getting to know each other and having a good time. Start time is 4.30pm or earlier if you wish, the bar will be open following the final game of the day. TEAM OF THE YEAR In an earlier newsletter we mentioned the Team of the Year Award. This will not be decided on players ability or who wins the most games throughout the season, but on how much support and assistance everyone gives their team both parents and players. This involves each team taking some time after their game by helping us and yourself by cleaning up around the ground after you game, making sure the rooms are swept out and left in a clean state. This will also mean away games – we will know who sweeps up after their away game, it is the right thing to do. This will also put our club in good stead with both the WRFL and other clubs. Congratulations to our U16C`s who have taken an early lead after Round 1. Keep up the good work. We hope all teams will do their best this week & good luck. ALTONA FOOTBALL CLUB The WRFL senior competition this Saturday sees the Altona Vikings away for three games beginning with the 18As playing the Wyndhamvale Falcons at 9.45am. Support our senior teams by bringing family and friends to the games this Saturday and cheer on the Mighty Vikings.
