Welcome to the discussion and activities for Slacker by Gordon Korman! This is the second book for ages 11-13. If you’re age 14-18 you should have the book Don’t Get Caught.

Here are some themes and questions to think about while you’re reading the book!

● Which one of the narrators do you relate to most? Do you think you’re more like Cam, Daphne, Jordan, or someone else?

● Things start getting out of hand really fast for Cam, from the very first chapter of the book. What would you have done differently if you were him to avoid getting in such a sticky situation?

● Do you think the events in this book are realistic? Could you see something like this happening at your school, or not?

Questions to Respond To:

Do you think you’d like to participate in something like the Positive Action Group? If so, what would be your first project to help/improve the community?

What was the funniest moment in the whole book?

What do you think caused Jennifer Del Rio to have a change of heart at the end of the book, and hand Elvis to the town veterinarian without trying to take credit?

Which book did you like more - Slider or Slacker?

Here are 3 ideas for Slacker activities!

● Write a scene from the perspective of someone who WASN’T a narrator in the book - for example, Elvis the beaver, the fireman who had to respond when Cam’s kitchen was on fire, etc. Feel free to share your ideas/scenes with us by dropping them in the library book drop, or by emailing them to [email protected] ● Challenge yourself to doing some “Positive Actions” like Cam and his friends, around your household! ● Redraw the cover of this book! We’d love to see what you come up with - email your art to [email protected].
