Columbia Heights Located in Northwest DC and next to the famous HBCU Howard University is Columbia Heights. The neighborhood was the original location of present-day George Washington University. Recently the neighborhood is becoming more gentrified and boasts the only Target store in the District. Foggy Bottom Between the White House and Georgetown lies Foggy Bottom, named for the fog that rose off of the Potomac. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, one of the nation’s premier performing arts institutions and home to the acclaimed National Symphony Orchestra, are all located in this section of town.
