Where to start?

The itinerary starts in Modane, at the train terminus. On the More pins from drive upwards, discover the singular beauty of the Haute #HAUTEMAURIENNE Maurienne Vanoise. Seven villages and 3 preserved resorts are located in this high alpine valley, along the River Arc. The first five villages; Bramans, Sollières-Sardières, Termignon, Lanslebourg and Lanslevillard are part of the large resort of Val Cenis, due to celebrate its 50th anniversary this winter! Created in 1967, the Val Cenis ski area boasts a successful combination of natural aspiration and modern amenities. Enjoy breathtaking views from the summit, only a stone’s throw from the historical Mont Cenis mountain pass, used by Napoleon 1st to reach Italy. The journey continues towards Bessans and Bonneval-sur-Arc. Renowned internationally for its Nordic skiing facilities, the scenery in Bessans is similar to Canada. The stone and slate village of Bonneval-sur-Arc boasts the label “Plus Beau Village de France” and recently served as a life-size studio for the film Belle and Sebastian. The Vanoise National Park covers one-third of the valley and provides a permanent natural backdrop.

A Great Nordic Adventure : la Grande Odyssée Savoie-Mont-Blanc

In 2005 Henry Kam stated, "it’s not easy in our regions to find itineraries adapted to long distance dog sledding”. Yet, within a decade, the Grande Odysée has become an international dog sled race that covers the greatest difference in altitude in the world and one of the most popular winter events in the Savoie region. 13 years on, the Haute Maurienne Vanoise remains the favourite stage of the event amongst mushers.
