DINING OUT Alhambra is rich in excellent restaurants Dining Out is our new monthly column to cel- ebrate how Alhambra is Rich in Restaurants and why restaurants here are exceptionally great places to dine. Most every type of food is available prepared with great expertise and authenticity, and the city is proud of the variety offered as well as the quality and the vari- ous settings and decors. The Chamber of Commerce encourages residents to check our dining and enter- tainment section (Pages 9-16B) each month and search for a new experience from the various advertisers and members. In June we should all celebrate Father’s Day, and what better way than to find a great feast for Dad and the family. Make plans to dine out on one week- end when time permits and Dad is not working. Alhambra Performing Arts Center will present jazz artist Murray Middleman and his All Star trio at 7 p.m., Sunday, June 18.

Mr. Middleman relocated from Phila- delphia to Los Angeles in 1982 and quickly established himself as a busy freelance saxophonist and woodwind art- ist, performing for private events, jazz clubs, and recording dates. He founded his music company Park Avenue West Entertainment with a core of great musi- cians and was invited to perform for or- ganizations such as the Los Angeles Phil- harmonic Association, Child Help USA, National Charity League, The L.A. Con- sular Corp Holiday Ball, and the Children’s Hospital Guild. In 2000, Mr. Middleman’s soaring clarinet and sax work was highlighted on his jazz CD With Love the Legends, which is a musical tribute to the stars of classic jazz. In 2011, Mr. Middleman’s soulful sax playing was heard in concert for the “Jazz for Latin Lovers” concerts in Los Angeles. These shows included Cuban pianist Gustavo Rameriz, drummer Emilio Valdez, along with New York bassist Eddi Resto. Mr. Middleman also performed for the 2015-2016 Distinguished Speak- ers Series at The Saban Theater for Martha Stewart, John Cleese of Monty Python fame, Israel’s former Prime Minister Ehud Barak, and former CIA and U.S. director of Defense Leon Panetta.
