In keeping with our tradition of serving the most elegant Spanish dishes, we have chosen to feature a collection of Spain's finest wines and a selection of American wines, sparkling whites and Champagne. Our wines are stored in our wine cellar in a climate controlled environment at 55° Fahrenheit with 70% humidity. The Columbia Restaurant’s wine list represents 4th and 5th generation, owner and operators, Richard and Andrea Gonzmart’s lifetime involvement in their family’s business. Their passion for providing guests the best wines from Spain, as well as their personal favorites from California, are reflected in every selection. They believe wines should be affordable and represent great value. Spanish wine is at least three thousand years old. This beautiful country with its extreme contrasts in climate, and soil produces a wide variety of wine: from delicate fine Sherries to rich dessert wine, old vintage wines to strong and hearty reds. Today, Spain’s winemakers are adapting modern practices while also respecting the country’s honored winemaking traditions. In addition, new wine laws inspire visionary producers to experiment with traditional and international grape varieties in regions never before known for quality or in unexplored territory. The resulting wines are rich and lively, crafted in styles that are recognizably “Spanish” and complement a wide range of today’s cuisines. This new world of wines in an old-world setting offers fertile ground for enjoyable exportation. This wine list illustrates the depth of knowledge and concern the Gonzmart family possess’, by keeping abreast of the wine market in Europe by traveling to Spain two or three times a year. Each Spanish wine region can be defined in its elevation and its proximity to the ocean or the sea. To break Spain’s geography into its autonomous regions we have broken the country into climatic categories. 7 Understanding Spanish Wines The wines of Spain can be divided into several regions, each one very different from the rest. Each wine region can be defined in its elevation and in its proximity to the ocean or the sea. To get a more thorough understanding of the places, vineyards, grapes and styles of wines, the country can be divided into 7 climatic categories: Green Valley The Mediterranean Coast Andalucía The Islands Duero River Valley Ebro River Valley The Meseta Within these climatic categories are smaller regions referred to as denominaciónes (similar to the French appellation) whose wine is regulated for quality according to specific laws. The denominación is part of a wider hierarchy of quality-graded descriptors for Spanish wine regions, as follows (highest quality first): • Denominación de Origen or DO: official classification for wines which follow strict production standards. • Vino de Calidad Producido en Región Determinada or VCPRD: another official appellation system following new standards established by the European Union. • Denominación de Pago ou DO de Pago: a recent classification aspiring to the very highest standards with extremely strict geographical criteria. • Denominación de Origen Calificada or DOCa (Catalan: Denominació d'Origen Qualificada or DOQ): another system which reflects a constant level of quality. Only used by a few appellations. • Vino de la Tierra or VdlT: table wines of a designated origin. The warm weather began in June and it was hot from mid-June through the end of July with veraison starting in the last week of July. High heat continued until mid-August causing the vines to shut down slightly, delaying ripeness and maturity, but a cooling trend later in August got things back on track. The characteristic Paso warm days and cold nights in September with the help of our calcareous soils retained natural acidity in the fruit while we waited for full ripeness and maturity. The rains stayed away through October allowing us to harvest only as perfect balance of flavor and structure developed in each block of our cabernet grapes through the second week of November.

    Structure in Wine steiia thiAst What is Structure? • So what is this thing, structure? It*s the sense you have that the wine has a well-established form,I think ofit as the architecture ofthe wine. A wine with a great structure will often remind me ofthe outlines of a cathedral, or the veins in a leaf...it supports, and balances the fiuit characteristics ofthe wine. The French often describe structure as the skeleton ofthe wine, as opposed to its flavor which they describe as the flesh. • Where does structure come firom? In white wines, it usually comes from alcohol or acidity; in red wines, it comes from a combination of acidity and tannin, a component in the grapes' skins and seeds. Thus, wines with a lot of tannin (like cabernet) also have a lot of structure. Beaujolais is made from gamay which does not have much tannin. As a result, Beaujolais can lack structure; it feels soft, flat or simple in the mouth (though its flavors can certainly still be attractive). • While structure is hard to articulate, you can easily taste or sense it —^and the lack of it. • Understanding structure is critical to understanding any ofthe ''powerful" red varieties: cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah, nebbiolo, tempranillo, and malbec, to name a few. I just don't think you can understand these wines unless you understand structure, and how it frames and focuses the powerful rush of fruit. It adds freshness, and a "lightness" to the density ofripe fiuit. Structure matters when pairing wine and food. Foods with a lot of structure themselves— like a meaty, thick steak-need wines with commensurate structure (like cabernet), or the food experience can dwarfthe wine experience.

It attempts to answer the question relating to the significance of Islamic legacies for the construction of Spanish history and identity. This research is a historical analysis of historical sources or data regarding the problem related to the place and contribution of al-Andalus’ or Islamic cultural legacies in its various dimensions. Source-materials of this research are particularly written primary and secondary sources. The interpretation of data employs the perspective of continuity and change, and continuity and discontinuity, in addition to Foucault’s power/knowledge relation. This research reveals thatal-Andalus was not merely a geographical entity, but essentially a complex of literary, philosophical and architectural construction. The lagacies of al-Andalus are seen as having a great significance for the reconstruction of Spanish history and the formation of Spanish identity, despite intense debates taking place among different scholar/historians. From Foucauldian perspective, the break between those who advocate and those who challenge the idea of convivencia in social, religious, cultural and literary spheres is to a large extent determined by power/knowledge relation. The Castrian and Albornozan different interpretations of the Spanish history and identity reflect their relations to power and their attitude to contemporary political situation that determine the production of historical knowledge.

Many of them are multilingual and also have text for example in Spanish or French. Only one of them has the rare language combination Swedish and Basque: Euskadi-bulletinen, which was published in 1975–1976 in solidarity with the independence movement in the Basque Country. This short-lived publication and its historical context are described in this article.1 Euskadi-bulletinen was published by Askatasuna ('freedom' in Basque), which described itself as a “committee for solidarity with the Basque people's struggle for freedom and socialism (1975:1, p. 24). “Euskadi” in the bulletin's title did not only refer to the three provinces Araba, Biscay and Gipuzkoa in northern Spain, but also to the neighbouring region Navarre and the three historical provinces Lapurdi, Lower Navarre and Zuberoa in southwestern France. This could be seen directly on the covers which all are decorated with maps including all seven provinces.

    GODELLO 2017 THE COLLECTION OF SPANISH GRAPE VARIETIES A white grape variety native to the north-eastern region of Spain, probably originating from the slopes of the Sil River in the D.O. Valdeoras... It can be found throughout Galicia, northern Portugal and the D.O. Bierzo. Traces of its production have been found dating back to the 12th century in the areas of Castile-Leon and Bierzo. Outside of these regions, it is grown in the D.O. Abona, El Hierro, La Palma, Ribeira Sacra, Ribeiro, Tacoronte-Acentejo, Valle de Güimar, Valle de la Orot- rava and Icoden-Daute- Isora (Tenerife). Sometimes there is confusion with Verdejo if you don’t see its leaves. Respected for its well develo- ped qualities, Godello shows a complex aromatic profile. It prefers dry climates and low humidity soils. Ages well in barrels. 1.200 Ha planted in Spain TECHNICAL INFORMATION Harvest time: End of September Classification: Bierzo DO Origin of the grapes: Bierzo Grape Variety: Godello Vinification: Fermentation at 12ºC for 15 days and completion of the fermentation at 16ºC. Aging on lees 60 days with daily batonages of 5 minutes Barrel ageing: No Winemaker: Ruben Magallanes TASTING NOTES Superb golden colour, delicate and radiant. Fresh and expressive nose, with a seductive note of lemons, white fruit (golden apple) and early spring flowers and a hint of yeast from the lees. The supple and full bodied mouthfeel is complemented by exquisite acidity. The mid-palate is ample and the lingering finish reveals citrus notes, cut grass and spices. PAIRING Ribs, roasts and cutlets, as well as curried poultry, pasta with shellfish and seafood will all go perfectly with this wine for dinner with friends.
