Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Max Duval (0-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts in his six innings of work. Tennessee right-handed started pitcher Thomas Hatch (2-0) earned the victory with five innings where he allowed a run on three hits with five walks and five strikeouts. Tennessee right-handed reliever Dakota Mekkes worked a scoreless ninth for his third save of the year. The Smokies took an early lead in the bottom of the first, with Jeffrey Baez blasting a two-run homer to left to put Tennessee in front 2-0. It remained a two-run lead until the top of the fifth, when a bases loaded walk to Eric Jagielo scored Jacksonville’s first run and cut the lead to 2-1. The next batter John Norwood struck out swinging to strand the bases loaded as the Smokies maintained their one run advantage, and would win by that margin. After Duval’s six innings, right-hander Jorgan Cavanerio worked a scoreless seventh and eighth innings out of Jacksonville’s bullpen. John Norwood saw his 11-game hitting streak come to an end with his 0-for-3 game, and Brian Schales saw his six-game hitting streak end by going 0-for-4 at the plate. The Jumbo Shrimp were 0-for-7 as a team with runners in scoring position and Jacksonville left 10 men on base in the game. UPCOMING SCHEDULE AND PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUPS DATE OPP.
