For Immediate Release 25 February 2013 For Immediate Release 25 February 2013 ‘Famous Five’ inducted into the 2013 Motor Sport magazine Hall of Fame - Niki Lauda, Damon Hill OBE, Graham Hill OBE, Colin Chapman CBE and Tom Kristensen join Motor Sport’s honours list - Exclusive coverage, from the Royal Opera House, to be shown by Sky Sports F1® HD on Friday 01 March at 16:30hrs For the first time in the history of the event, Motor Sport magazine held their annual Hall of Fame evening at the Royal Opera House, in Covent Garden, London (Monday 25 February) and honoured five ‘racing greats’ at this exclusive awards ceremony. The Paul Hamlyn Hall was graced with some of the biggest names to have worked and raced in F1®, and this year’s awards went to the highly deserving line-up of Niki Lauda, Damon Hill OBE, Graham Hill OBE, Colin Chapman CBE and eight-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen. Hosted by Sky Sports F1® HD presenters Natalie Pinkham and Simon Lazenby, it was a night to remember, particularly for the F1® fraternity. Three-time FIA Formula One World Championship® winner, Niki Lauda, receiving his award from Jack Heuer and Piero Ferrari, said, “I am very delighted and highly honoured to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.” British driver and 1996 FIA Formula One World Championship® winner, Damon Hill OBE, commented, “Motor Sport magazine’s Hall of Fame is already a highly prestigious institution. I know the entire Hill family is delighted to have not one but TWO family members inducted at once. It’s another Hill first! And with a third racing Hill, in Josh, on stage to honour his grandfather, our cup of recognition will have spilled over by the end of the evening.” Clive Chapman, son of Lotus founder Colin, paid tribute to his father, saying, “The Chapman family is proud that Colin Chapman’s achievements continue to be recognised and celebrated. We salute the hundreds of Team Lotus personnel whose ability and dedication enabled him to achieve so much.” Danish racing driver Tom Kristensen, said, “It's a great honour for me to receive this prestigious award from a magazine that is known around the world. Sportscar endurance racing is a ‘team’ sport and I have been very fortunate to drive for the very best teams and to share a car with fantastic co-drivers and so in this respect, this award is for them just as much as me. “I’ve had fantastic times with these two drivers here tonight, Allan [McNish] and Dindo [Capello], both on and off the track. Of course Audi Sport Team Joest has given us the car, engineers, technicians and strategy, everything that has combined to enable us to achieve our success. “It would be remiss of me not to mention my father, Carl Erik, who gave me the encouragement and advice at the beginning of my career. I owe him, and of course my lovely family, absolutely everything.” The first exclusive coverage of the Motor Sport magazine awards will be shown on Sky Sports F1® HD on Friday 01 March at 16:30hrs, as part of the hour-long F1® Show which will also cover the final pre-season test. In addition, this much awaited programme is scheduled for repeats during the subsequent week. At Motor Sport’s fourth annual Hall of Fame, held in association with Audi UK, a unique charity auction took place courtesy of Bonhams and on behalf of the Grand Prix Mechanics Charitable Trust. Motor Sport magazine is delighted to have raised over £92,000 for this worthy cause and thanks all of the prize donators and successful bidders. Adding to the atmosphere and elegance of the evening, personalities such as Sir Stirling Moss OBE, Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, Jody Scheckter, John Watson MBE, Jackie Oliver, Martin Brundle, Stefano Domenicali, David Richards CBE, Allan McNish, Steve Parrish and many others from the world of motor racing attended. BBC Radio 2’s Johnnie Walker and TV presenter Nick Knowles were also present, along with Ted Kravitz and David Croft from the Sky Sports F1® channel, and British actor Danny John-Jules. TAG Heuer is proud to have continued their affiliation with the awards, the brand celebrating another milestone in its long association with motor racing - the 50th anniversary of the iconic Carrera watch - famously named after the legendary Carrera Panamericana Rally. • Slingsby Golf Academy Media Presentation
    Q. Are you good at sports? CADET Q&A: Growing up I loved every single sports. I have a son and daughter and I am determined that my daughter will always have the same opportunities as my son. I’m seeing that finally happen now and for Natalie Pinkham both of them to recognise that there is no difference and absolute parity between them in terms of the opportunities they have in sport and life generally is of the upmost importance to me. Q. Tell us about your golf experience? Golf has always been a sport I have admired, respected, and enjoyed watching. However, I always thought it would be massively time consuming to play golf and I wouldn’t have that time as a working mum, but I am hoping this challenge can prove that wrong! My late Grandpa was a scratch golfer and wrote books about golf, I always felt as though I’d let him down a bit not taking it up. I think he’s going to be looking down with a big smile and a twinkle in his eye. Q. What were your thoughts about golf before you took on this challenge? I have been quite intimated by golf, by golf courses, the golf clubs - I feel you have to wear, do and say the right thing. Where you can stand and where you can’t stand and through this, I’d like to bust that myth for others! Q. How do you feel about the potential of playing in front of a big crowd in September? I’m really excited about this but if I think about it too much, I will lose sleep over it.

  • Q & a Session with Martin Whitmarsh Martin
Q & A SESSION WITH MARTIN WHITMARSH MARTIN WHITMARSH: Perhaps it's worth saying the geniuses come after me. DAVID CROFT: Well, I thought I'd give you the option to be a genius or not. Thanks for joining us. This is the first time we've heard from you this morning, so we ought to start with the car; what do you think? MARTIN WHITMARSH: Well, it's already been commented on, it looks beautiful. I should probably pull these chairs away, stop hiding it, but -- no, it looks beautiful at the moment, but cars really do look beautiful if they win races. And, you know, the beauty is more than skin deep. I think there's tremendous engineering underneath. A lot of thought has gone into this car and, really, refinement. I'm sure it will look different when it gets to Australia. That's the nature offer Formula 1 these days, we're constantly evolving the product, but I think it's nice, when you're going to have to stand around a car for quite a long period of your life during a year, if it looks good at the outset that helps us. DAVID CROFT: Lewis and Jenson said there's only one goal at the start of the season; is that your goal as well, to win a championship? MARTIN WHITMARSH: Well, yeah, I'm sure it's no surprise to everyone here that our goal is to win two world championships this year. That's what we exist to do. That's what we try to do every year.

Episode 57 – It Was a Long Seven Minutes in the Renault World Coming Up Chris: Welcome to Sidepodcast, Episode 57 – It Was a Long Seven Minutes in the Renault World. Coming up on today’s show we discuss the sale of Toro Rosso, the fragility of Red Bull and how useless our predictions are. Intro Me: Ah, that sounds good, doesn’t it? Chris: Are we allowed to use that? Me: Um, it’s only short and it’s only once, so hopefully no one will mind. Chris: I want my old theme tune back. Me: Yea, well, the thing is, Formula 1 is coming back to the BBC, so we just had to celebrate with a bit of this tune. Chris: Yea, it’s everyone’s favourite but me. Me: It’s the official Formula 1 tune of the BBC and we had to play it. Chris: Can I have my theme tune back next week? Me: Only if you’re good. Good Week/Bad Week Chris: It’s been a good week for Kovalainen as McLaren have said they will be changing their pit lane speed limiter system in the future so that he can’t accidentally press the button and ruin his whole race. Mark Gene of Ferrari was surprised it happened at all because at Ferrari the button is inactive in a high gear or at a top speed. Me: That’s just plain common sense, though, isn’t it? How come McLaren didn’t figure that out by themselves? Chris: I can’t believe if it’s that easy to press the button, no one’s done it before.

Episode 44 – Sidepoddie Awards [Intro: Rich Reich, Keeping Up With the Race] Chris: Welcome to Sidepodcast, this is Episode 44 – Sidepoddie Awards. Hello everyone, welcome to the last show for 2007. Me: Ah, does that mean we’re taking a break? Chris: Um, no, not really. We did have a season review show planned but that’s going to merge with some shows early in January. And, we were going to do a news show this week, but quite frankly, I can’t face having to say anything else about McLaren. Me: And I don’t blame you, but there’s plenty to talk about on that subject, but, next year. Chris: Technically you do get a couple of weeks off, what with it being Christmas and all, but it’s not really a winter break. We’re gonna be sitting back, taking stock of what we’ve accomplished this year and what we intend to do next year. We’ll still be blogging and all that stuff. Me: That doesn’t sound much like a holiday, and that sounds very uh, overblown, and over the top. Have you been reading some Hollywood scripts recently? Chris: Really, all we’re gonna do is let the weekly audio show show take a break while we fix all the things that we’ve been saying we’ll do all year and never getting round to. Me: Why didn’t you just say so in the first place? Chris: Anyway, it’s time to get on with the show. Me: Ooh, shall I crack open the Red Bull for one last time? Chris: Please do, yes.

  • The Estuary English Effect
The Estuary English Effect Audience Design and Act of Identity on British Television Masterproef aangeboden tot het verkrijgen van het diploma Master in de Meertalige Communicatie Door: Els De Wit Academiejaar: 2010-2011 Promotor: Dr. Nadine Van den Eynden Morpeth Acknowledgements I would like to thank everybody who has supported me during this year of hard work. My promotor, Dr. Van den Eynden for being an inspiration to me, for her great enthusiasm and continuous guidance during the whole year. My boyfriend for being such a good critic, patient listener and supporter of everything extra-ordinary, and my parents for bringing out the best in me.
