Keywords: edge detection, segmentation, feature extraction, Adaptive Thresholding. Abstract. An automatic vehicle identification system can be divided several phases. They are vehicle identification, license plate location, and license plate interpretation. This work focus on the latter phase are the license plate segmentation and character segmentation. The processed plate segmentation are binerisasi surgery, open- closemorphology, median filtering, slicing, resizing and normalization. Segmentation results of license plate tracking object will be done global for reading license platesautomatically. The approach of the character image with the test results show the system can recognize as many as 89.1% of vehicle license plate image data. From the test results of image data obtained license plate number of times that the system can not recognize some letters. The characters do not get the results it can be said that obtaining a good image, this is because the sides of the image-level characters have thick is not the same so as to produce no recognizable characters. Because of these factors affect the results of the similarity character recognition occurs during the process of feature. Next, some processes need to be developed so that the feature extraction method is better.

Introduction

Advances in vehicle license plate detection system is urgently needed in today's modern era, where technology can be seen in many places including the discovery of technology that are also in the parking lotof motor/carmall or other crowded center. The technology uses a computer connected to the camera to recognize any number plate motorcycle/car entering the parking area automatically without human intervention again to record one by one manually [1]. The use of this new technology caused many problems arise because the arise of recording the license plate which is done manually by humans because it takes a long time and sometimes there is some error resulting in long queues. This research applies image processing to identify the license plate number of the vehicle. The system should be able to recognize the letters and numbers of characters contained in the image. The image of a motor vehicle license plate number was captured using a digital camera, then done segmentation for gain characteristics. The hallmark of a pattern can be shaped feature vector and the feature vector to be used in the introduction. In the process of recognition, not all pixels of the object to be recognized is taken. So it is necessary to apply a method to reduce the pixel to be used as a feature. This process is known as feature extraction. Then do the matching. In previous research there are various methods: DTW, Euclidean distance, Backpropagation, and many more. In a vehicle license plate recognition applications, there are 2 main processes, namely the number plate on a vehicle tracking and segmentation of license plate. In 2010 Heikkila M. and Hung, et al conducted a single object tracking results are based texture features, which were lost due to character influences image acquisition that affect the production process (Sonka, et al, 2008). While the background with plate separation algorithm performed smearing algorithm

Bain Khusnul Khotimah, Haryanto, Sigit Susanto Putro implementation but these studies suffer from the color of the car used in Indonesian in general tend to be dark-colored or dark and require the input image with the contrast between the value of the license plate character is quite large. It is necessary for the overall segmentation without doing a search one with the license plate location method Componet Connectted Analysis (CCA). While Kuchi 2011 threshoding compose adaptive method that modifies the method of separation of background objects by doing a hypothesis on the value of the image is converted into degrees of gray colored background pixels and the results can be applied by a colored image .. Plate number is still a collection of letters that still need to be detected or read by using segmentation studies generally do local feature extraction for character mmembaca plate by dividing the characters into block form letters by Rizki, 2010 [12]. Lack of vehicle license plate segmentation results are still a few characters on the license plate characters are fragmented or interconnected, so that not all characters can be extracted when filtering [9-11]. This of course affects the level of success that will be achieved. This study uses the image of the license plate taken offline with the use of digital cameras. As well as the characters used in the introduction is the letter (A through Z) capital letters and numbers (0 to 9). This research will produce a segmentation Seara morphology to characterize and identify the motor vehicle number plate recognition and to determine the percentage of accuracy of recognition is done by using the Correlation Coefficient to measure the success rate of detection of vehicle license plates.

Methods

The approach of methode number plate extraction is represented when this system vehicle image is acquired through digital camera. The output number plate images are acquired in different illumination conditions and background. The consists of following main steps: 1) RGB to grayscale conversion 2) Noise removal by median filtering 3) Morphological opening and image subtraction operation 4) Image binarization 5) Edge detection by sobel operator 6) Candidate plate area detection by morphological opening and closing operations 7) Actual number plate area extraction 8) Enhancement of Extracted plate region. 9) Recognition

Grayscale

Gray scale are the only color in RGB space with components red, green, and blue have the same intensity. Intensity values for each pixel in the image is in the interval 0- 255 intensity, where as color images need three intensity values are at intervals of 0-255 for each pixel. The closer the value 255, then the degree of gray will be bright. Basically this process is done by leveling the pixel values of the three RGB values in to one value. But because the three primary colors are considered non-uniform in terms of ability to contribute to the brightness, some have argued thata more appropriateway ofconversionis to use equation (1) [3]:

Y = 0.299R + 0.587G + 0.114B (1)

Median Filter

Median filter is an operation replaces the pixel values of the image with the median value or the median of its neighboring pixels and Pikes itself. This filter is very effective to eliminate the type of salt and pepper noise and also the impulse while and retaining image detail because it is not dependent on the values that are common in the environment

Segmentation

Segmentationvehicle number plateis an important processin thelicense platerecognition system. This process will determine the success of the output of the recognition system, because of the input image with a complex background, the system must be able to determine the where about s or the location of the number plate on a car

Morphology Image

The morphology of digital images is a way to analyze or describe the form of digital objects [3]. In general, the purpose of morphological operations on binary image is to improve the shape of the object in order to generate features that are more accurate when the analysis was performed. So the morphological operations are not operations that have the purpose of analysis, but rather an operation that aims to facilitate the analysis to be performed on the object. Morphological operations are used in research that is closing that is a combination of erosion and dilation operations are performed in sequence, and the opening of which is a combination of erosion and dilation operations are performed in sequence

Thresholding

Operation binerisasi, i.e. segmentation of a gray scale image to produce a binary image. Binerisasi process requires a threshold value (T), the process of finding the threshold value is called thresholding image.

Edge detection

Edge detection is a set of connected pixels that lie on the boundary between two regions [4]. Edge is characterized by sudden changes in the intensity values or large within a short distance. Tracking edge is basically an operation to find a different intensity changes in an image. Edges characterize object boundaries and are there fore useful for edge segmentation and identification of objects in the image. The purpose of edge detection is to improve the appearance of the boundary line of an area or object within the image.

Segmentation of plate area extraction

Analysis of character segmentation stage filtration process is a binary image of an object. Filtering can be done by doing the calculations to determine the extent of the area of an object that has been labeled. An object can consist of a collection of objects connected to each other, therefore, the object can be calculated extent of its constituent area, so that the calculation of the area can be used as a filter to remove the existing noise in the images or classify objects needed in the process of recognition.

Recognition Correlation Coefficient

This research method is used for character recognition process, which is used to measure the speed of change in the correlation between the pixels of the two images. Correlation coefficient method to indicate the opposing images of each other (distance B) and a value of 1 indicates the same images (distance A). The correlation between x and y image. Image correlation is useful for finding pieces of other images in a larger picture. This method is more traditional than the approach using a prototype vector. 2 pieces of an image f(x,y) and w(x,y). For each value of (x,y) say (x0,y0) in fungs if, then the above correlation equation produces a value c because the values of x and y vary, then move the drawing area wf. This level of accuracy will be reduced if the value of x and make in approaching a border f. Correlation function has adeficiency in broad changes in f. The correlation coefficientexpressedthe degreeof similarity between twosignals. If the two images f(x,y) and g(x,y), the correlation coefficient between the two is for example if all the f value is double d, then the value of c (x, y) will be the second time. To over come these short coming score relation coefficient method can be used as follows:

for = 0,1,2,..., 1, = 0,1,2...... 1. Where f and g respectively the average value of the degree of gray pixel image f(x,y) and g(x,y). In this research, the gray scale correlation of each − image pixel by pixel − without scatter in g media image which scattering. Input image data in the process of character recognition, namely the image segmentation results of each character in the form ofa binary image.

Image Acquisition

The proses acquire to input image of vehicle. Image is acquired by digital camera which taken in different illumination conditions and various distances from the camera. Fig. 1.Result shows the input vehicle image.

Fig. 1. Input Image Image Binarization

The In basic aim of preprocessing is to improve the contrast of the input image. The process of preprocessing RGB image is converted into gray level image and then into binary image. Median filter are used to remove noise and distortion from the input image. So, The noise can occur during camera capturing and weather conditions. The mechanism for noise reduction while preserving edges more effectively than median

And the result of applying median filter on gray scale image is shown in Fig. 2.So, after the operation of subtracted gray scale image will be converted into binary image. Then, threshold level is used by Otsu's method. The threshold level of image according converted into black and white image by using function im2bw. Fig. 2 shows binarized image.

Fig. 2. Shows binarized image. Opening and Closing Operations

Vertical edge is used to detect plate by sobel operator. Next, the proposed location plate will be used morphological operations the unwanted objects in the image are removed. In detection of candidate plate area, firstly dilation operation is represented on sobel edge detected image and after this holes are filled by using MATLAB functionwith “imfill”. The result of applying dilation operation and filling holes is shown in Figure 3.

Fig 3. Morphological Dilation Operation

In Figure 4 the image of the license plates of vehicles that already are binary will undergo a process of filtering using opening-closing and median filter. This filtering process is done in order to remove noise and smooth the image. With the opening-closing operation beforehand in the image, it will get the image with reduced noise, and minimize the big noise that can not be removed by median filtering directly. By doing these two filtering operations, we will get a much cleaner image than noise.

The license plate detection system showed a system that has been designed is going well according to expectations of making the system as desired. But, there are several factors that strongly influence the results of the introduction of errors in the image of the number plate. Factors affecting errors license plate image recognition results as follows:

1. Brightness In image acquisition, the captured image is possible not to have the right level of brightness and thus greatly affect the maximum Determination threshold value (threshold) when changes in the license plate image to binary image. 2. The slope of the resulting image of the characters in the license plate image capture

Issue: 5/2015 7 Bain Khusnul Khotimah, Haryanto, Sigit Susanto Putro

is not exactly perpendicular but has a certain angle, causing the characters in the image becomes skewed. Because it is this which allows the introduction of errors in the character image. 3. The characters do not get the results it can be said that obtaining a good image, this is because the sides of the image-level characters have thick / thin is not the same so as to produce no recognizable characters. Because of these factors affect the results of the similarity character recognition occurs during the process of feature extraction as due to a lack of appropriate Are Some processes need to be developed so that the feature extraction method is better.

Conclusion

The proposed method is mainly designed for Indonesian plate. The result extraction process are well for low resolution, noisy and low contrast images In Phase Character Segmentation can behandle almost the entire image can be segmented license plate. The approach of the character image with the test results show the system can recognize as many as 89.1% of vehicle license plate image data. From the test results of image data obtained license plate number of times that the system can not recognize some letters. Such errors can occur due to several factors including writing license plates that have been tested.
