Miles gets to grips with his new powers and the rest of the cast is introduced from the big bad to supporting characters like Captain Quaid of the NYPD. Bendis gives way too much space to what is Ultimate Comics Spider-Man: Scorpion vol. 2 just table-setting. The Ringer?? The second Miles Morales Spidey book was a bit slow for my taste but I still enjoyed it a lot for the most part — Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man continues to be an impressively accomplished title. While the Ringer and Omega Red were good tests for his abilities, his uncle Aaron, aka The Prowler, is a much worse threat. I don't see anything good coming from Aaron knowing Miles is Spider-Man. The Ultimate Comics Spider-Man: Scorpion vol. 2 was well suited to a Spider-Man story and made Miles look like a young teenager rather than a small adult. It's hard Ultimate Comics Spider-Man: Scorpion vol. 2 me not to feel somewhat paternal toward Miles since the kid is only The way to get people behind Miles in the long run is to feature him in Ultimate Comics Spider-Man: Scorpion vol. 2 media and the movies would go a long way toward that. I have more than essays sitting right here in front of me waiting to be marked, yet I have been reading Ultimate Comics Spider-Man Vol. So here goes: Look at all the stars!!! This is officially my favorite Bendis book since Alias! Okay, the ar I have more than essays sitting right here in front of me waiting to be marked, yet I have been reading Ultimate Comics Spider-Man Vol. Okay, the artwork is strangely inconsistent for a major Marvel title the five issues collected Ultimate Comics Spider-Man: Scorpion vol. 2 were illustrated by no less than three different artistsbut the writing is so crazy good that I couldn't care less. It also doesn't hurt that the various artistic approaches all work in their own way, especially those of Sara Pichelli and David Marquez - and the internet tells me that they will be in charge for most of the remaining run, hooray! Hey, I may even be tempted to check out that original Ultimate Spider-Man run one of these days. Either that, or I am a very silly and selfish old man. Well, or maybe both, I guess. Seriously, though: really really good stuff, recommended not only to fans of the genre! View 1 comment. This volume, the second with Miles Morales as Spider-Man, feels mostly like exposition for the storylines to come in future volumes. That's ok, though. It's good exposition, and I liked having a little more time and space to get to know Miles before he gets pushed into the deep end. And we all know he will be. I'm not sure how I feel about the character arc of Miles's Uncle Aaron. He felt a little more complicated in the first volume than he seems to be here. Then again, we are seeing him under This volume, the second with Miles Morales as Spider-Man, feels mostly like exposition for the storylines to come in future volumes. Then again, we are seeing him under entirely different circumstances. Apr 01, Mike rated it really liked it Shelves: read-on-marvel-unlimited. I am struck once more by how natural the interplay sounds between characters - especially the reactions of villains when they see this new Spider-Man. There's so many ways that dialogue can sound stilted or "written", and I can't help but be amazed at Bendis' lifelong talent for the rhythms and surprises of people talking. It's not "clever" like Whedon-speak, it's not arch like heroic movies, and its not overwritten like most TV teleplays. It's just a beautiful balance, a tightrope walk that look I am struck once more by how natural the interplay sounds between characters - especially the reactions of villains when they see this new Spider-Man. It's just a beautiful balance, a tightrope walk that looks a little like they are floating on air. And I must say, well-played with upping the stakes with the Scorpion and the Prowler, having established them in sub-plot shadows earlier in Ultimate Comics Spider-Man: Scorpion vol. 2 series. I love how they take the stage and assert themselves as threats that are consistent with what we've seen, and without being confined by their counterparts. I'm pulled deep into the story when I see the manipulations laid on Miles by his uncle, and the way that plays out definitely has me tense and dying to know how it turns out. I just wish they could keep a flagship artist on this book, at least for the duration of a whole trade. View 2 comments. Jul 17, Craig rated it really liked it. Still liking the story, though the artwork in this volume is quite variable. Two pretty crummy issues, by Chris Samnee, followed by 1 issue by original artist Sara Pachelli, and 2 by David Marquez. I hoped Marvel would pick a superstar artist for this title and do their best to keep the same person on it as long as possible like Mark Bagley the first go-aroundbut if they're already playing musical chairs with the artwork on this flagship title, that doesn't bode well. Thankfully, it's balanc Still liking the story, though the artwork in this volume is quite variable. Thankfully, it's balanced by a very strong story from Bendis that continues to explore this very different character and his background and family. It's great so far and I hope it can continue at this high level. The Prowler, The Tinkerer and The Scorpion welcome Miles to the Spiderverse as does the complication of his new life as he has to lie to everyone around him. A true testament to the spirit of Stan Lee's creation is unfolding nicely in this series! May 05, Ryan Stewart rated it it was amazing Shelves: read-graphic-novels-comics-manga. This is edge-of-your-seat stuff right here. Bendis is inconsistent as hell but when he's on he's one of the best. And he's on with Miles Morales.
