In conjunction with the National Building Museum exhibition Small Stories: At Home in a Dollhouse, AFI Silver presents a film series inspired by architecture and infused with drama, romance and suspense. The exhibition's twelve spectacular dollhouses span 300 years of British history and include lavish mansions, townhomes and high-rise apartments. The film series celebrates the diverse domestic relationships and scenarios represented by these historic objects—drawn from the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum of Childhood in London. Small Stories is on view at the National Building Museum through January 15, 2017. Visit www.nbm.org for information.

Small Stories on Film October-November 2016 AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center

The National Building Museum is proud to partner with the (AFI) Silver Theatre and Cultural Center to present a film series that celebrates the historical eras, architectural forms, and imaginary scenarios represented by the spectacular dollhouses included in the Museum’s Small Stories exhibition.

Infused with drama, romance, and suspense, several films are set within domestic environments inspired by the exhibition’s twelve stunning dollhouses—from lavish mansions (Marie Antoinette, Clue) and townhomes (The Lodger) to modernist villas (Mon Oncle), to middle class homes (Mr. Blandings…) and high-rise apartments (Attack the Block, High-Rise). Other films reflect the imaginary narratives used in the exhibition to interpret the dollhouses, from suspense (The Uninvited) to wartime melodrama (This Happy Breed).
