This might be a film that shares themes with The Graduate or shows similar stylistic choices or one that you can analyze through a similar lens. Use that main area that they share to analyze the two films in comparison with each other. The final product should be two pages typed and should be uploaded to TurnItIn by Friday, May 15th. or Option 2: Watch Bonnie and Clyde from 1967 directed by Arthur Penn. The Graduate and Bonnie and Clyde were made at roughly the same time. Analyze them both in comparison with each other, both in terms of style and filmmaking choices and in terms of historical/sociocultural context and how they reflect the United States in the late 1960s. -

The Museum of Modern Art For Immediate Release November 1986 DIRECTORS GUILD OF AMERICA: FIFTIETH ANNIERSARY TRIBUTE ELAINE MAY, November 17 LOUIS MALLE, December 8 Elaine May and Louis Malle will be honored by The Museum of Modern Art as part of the ongoing DIRECTORS GUILD OF AMERICA: FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY TRIBUTE. Ms. May, film director, playwright, actress, and comedienne, is the subject of a tribute on Monday, November 17, at 6:00 p.m., when her 1976 revisionist buddy-movie Mikey and Nicky will be screened. Mr. Malle, a provocative director of sensual images who has experimented with a variety of film forms, will present his 1980 film Atlantic City, starring Burt Lancaster and Susan Sarandon, on Monday, December 8, at 6:00 p.m. In Mikey and Nicky Ms. May tailors the framing and dialogue to the personalities of the actors John Cassavetes and Peter Falk. Convinced that a contract is out for him, Nicky (Cassavetes), a small-time hood, calls his childhood friend Mikey (Falk), a syndicate man. Their one night encounter is the focus of the film. A seemingly casual approach cleverly disguises a tight, carefully-planned structure. From a screenplay by John Guare, Mr. Malle's Atlantic City uses the transitory character of the boardwalk town as a backdrop for a tale of decay and corruption. Mr. Lancaster plays the aging friend and protector of an ambitious nightclub croupier, played by Ms. Sarandon. As a child Ms. May appeared on stage and radio with her father, Jack Berlin. Interview JAMES MCELHINNEY: This is James McElhinney speaking with Jennifer Bartlett at her home and studio in Brooklyn on Friday June the 3rd, 2011. Good morning. JENNIFER BARTLETT: Good morning. MR. MCELHINNEY: Where were you born? MS. BARTLETT: Long Beach, California. MR. MCELHINNEY: Really? MS. BARTLETT: [Laughs.] Yes. MR. MCELHINNEY: And what was your childhood like? Were you exposed to art at an early age? MS. BARTLETT: There—we—there was some art books at home that I would look at, but not a lot. And I think probably bought by my mother. My father was a big—feeling that artists were parasites on society—[laughs]— and you know the rest. -

‘ICE DREAMS’ CAST BIOS SHELLEY LONG (Harriet Clayton) – Shelley Long is an Emmy® and Golden Globe-winning actress. She began her career after attending Northwestern University by performing in small films and local theater, eventually becoming co-host and associate producer of a critically acclaimed Chicago magazine show “Sorting it Out,” for which she won three local Emmys. She eventually returned to her first passion, acting, and joined Chicago’s famed Second City improvisational comedy troupe. Shortly after, Long landed a role as barmaid Diane Chambers in the long-running NBC comedy “Cheers.” Long entertained audiences for five seasons, garnering an Emmy and two Golden Globes. She returned for the series’ top-rated finale and has reprised her “Cheers” role in guest appearances on NBC’s “Frasier,” one episode garnering an Emmy nomination. Long recently starred in a film short titled “A Couple of White Chicks at the Hairdresser,” and starred in a children’s DVD, “Mr. Vinegar and the Curse.” In 2006, Long starred in “Honeymoon With Mom” on Lifetime, and co-starred in the Hallmark Channel Valentine’s Day movie, “Falling In Love with the Girl Next Door.” She has made a number of guest TV appearances including “Boston Legal,” “Yes, Dear, “Joan of Arcadia,” “Complete Savages” and, most recently, ABC’s hit comedy “Modern Family.” Long was seen in the Robert Altman film “Dr. T and the Women” for Artisan Entertainment.
