Fax: 212 788-2001 www.nycmillennium.org NYC 2000 kicked off the new Tax Free for the Millennium exemption March 1st at Macy's in Herald Square at 6:30 a.m. Mayor Giuliani purchased the first items under the new tax exemption that eliminates sales tax on clothing and footwear items under $110. Joan Rivers and Curtis Sliwa of WABC Radio joined the Mayor at Macy's for this early morning event. This new exemption will bring between 10,000 and 15,000 new jobs to New York City. It will also make New York City more competitive with other states and cities that do not have a sales tax such as New Jersey. ^ .

Starting March 27th, the NYC 2000 Discussion Series will begin at the Celeste Bartos Forum of the New York Public Library. Dr. Henry Kissinger and Dan Klores are chairing this event which will focus on "How the Internet Economy will Affect New York and the Nation's Economy in the Next Millennium." To date, Richard Johnson, CEO and founder of HotJobs.com, Kevin O'Connor, President of Doubleclick, Joseph Parks, President of Kozmo.com and Thomas Clark ofTheStreet.com have all committed to participate in the NYC 2000 Discussion Series.

In May, the NYC 2000 Auction will give the public the opportunity to bid on the dresses that were featured in the NYC 2000 Fashion Show in September 1999. These unique couture designs, which were produced exclusively for the NYC 2000 Fashion Show, feature such designers as Donna Karan, Nicole Miller and Giorgio Armani. Jewelry from the Fashion Show will also be auctioned off after a generous donation by the Jewelry Information Center. NYC 2000 is partnering with Yahoo! on this online auction. All proceeds from this auction will go to the Center for Arts Education.

The Cow Parade NY 2000 will run through New York City from June 15th to Labor Day in September. The Cow Parade will feature over 500 colorful cows decorated and painted by New York City artists. At the conclusion, the cows will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting New York City charities, the City Parks Foundation and City Public Schools. NYC 2000, the Parks Department and NYC & Company are collaborating on this project which brings another truly unique art event to our City.

July 4th is always one of the best weeks of the yea/ana/and OpSail 2000 will sshsure that July 4, 2000 will be no exception. Ships from around the worteL^jl-oVkLv l be dockgdjH-NBw York Harbor from July 2nd - July 9th. Festivities throughout the week will include events for military crews, officers and their families. NYC 2000 is planning an exclusive celebration on the July 4th in lower . There will be close to one hundred tall ships and thirty-four naval vessels in New York Harbor for this historic event as well as the Macy's fireworks display that will be the largest in history.

First Night® will return to all five boroughs of Manhattan fcr the second year in a row. First Night was extremely well received by the public and NYC 2000 is excited at the prospect of making it bigger and better for this New Year's Eve. We received many letters from guests of First Night who expressed their gratitude for providing a family oriented, low cost and non- alcoholic event at all the First Night locations for all New Yorkers.
