Vienna Mozart Orchestra

The Vienna Mozart Orchestra, with its 30 musicians, was founded in 1986 and has devoted itself entirely to that great composer of the Viennese classical period, . Since its foundation 30 years ago, the orchestra has found a permanent place in Viennese concert life, becoming a fixture in the City of Vienna’s musical programmes every summer.

A number of musicians from famous Viennese orchestras and ensembles collaborate with the Vienna Mozart Orchestra as soloists and conductors, among them members of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna Sym- phony orchestras. In addition, singers from worldfamous opera houses, prin- cipally from the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Volksoper, perform with the Vienna Mozart Orchestra.

Best-known and most popular is the concert series “Vienna Mozart Concerts in his- torical costumes”, performed every year from April until the end of October, four to six times a week. An ideal background for these concerts is provided by the Golden Hall of the Musikverein where about 100 concerts are performed per year and by the Vienna State Opera. All together the Vienna Mozart Orchestra performs about 160 times each year in Vienna.

Beyond its regular concert program at the most important concert halls in its home city, the list of engagements besides the yearly concert programme is long: Vienna Mozart Orchestra

Ten open-air concerts on the Millennium stage in front of Schloss Schönbrunn as a co- production with Klangbogen Wien in 1996, a guest performance during the Carinthian Summer in Ossiach in August 1997, under the leadership of Ernst Ottensamer, member of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, or a gala evening in June 1996 with performances of world known singer Frederica van Stade and Jerry Hadley at the Vienna Hofburg organi- sed by the Chase Manhattan Bank. Speaking of engagements, the Vienna Mozart Orchestra developed intensive tour activities all around the world. The orchestra has visited Japan several times and had the honour of opening the 1991 Mozart Year in Tokyo and to represent Austria at the Festival International Cervantino in Mexico in 2002.

Further guest performances have taken the orchestra to Italy, Spain, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Greece, Malta, Cyprus, Turkey, the Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Russia, Morocco, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Brazil, Panama, Guatemala, Mexico, Canada and the USA.
