Staging Memory: The Drama Inside the Language of Elfriede Jelinek Abstract This essay focuses on Jelinek's problematic relationship to her native Austria, as it is reflected in some of her most recent plays: Ein Sportstück (A Piece About Sports), In den Alpen (In the Alps) and Das Werk (The Plant). Taking her acceptance speech for the 2004 Nobel Prize for Literature as a starting point, my essay explores Jelinek's unique approach to her native language, which carries both the burden of historic guilt and the challenge of a distinguished, if tortured literary legacy. Furthermore, I examine the performative force of her language. Jelinek's "Dramas" do not unfold in action and dialogue, rather, they are embedded in the grammar itself. -

THE NAZI BLOOD PURGE OF 1934 APPRCWBD": \r H M^jor Professor 7 lOLi Minor Professor •n p-Kairman of the DeparCTieflat. of History / cr^LtxJ~<2^ Dean oiTKe Graduate School IV Burkholder, Vaughn, The Nazi Blood Purge of 1934. Master of Arts, History, August, 1972, 147 pp., appendix, bibliography, 160 titles. This thesis deals with the problem of determining the reasons behind the purge conducted by various high officials in the Nazi regime on June 30-July 2, 1934. Adolf Hitler, Hermann Goring, SS leader Heinrich Himmler, and others used the purge to eliminate a sizable and influential segment of the SA leadership, under the pretext that this group was planning a coup against the Hitler regime. Also eliminated during the purge were sundry political opponents and personal rivals. Therefore, to explain Hitler's actions, one must determine whether or not there was a planned putsch against him at that time. Although party and official government documents relating to the purge were ordered destroyed by Hermann GcTring, certain materials in this category were used. Especially helpful were the Nuremberg trial records; Documents on British Foreign Policy, 1919-1939; Documents on German Foreign Policy, 1918-1945; and Foreign Relations of the United States, Diplomatic Papers, 1934. Also, first-hand accounts, contem- porary reports and essays, and analytical reports of a /1J-14 secondary nature were used in researching this topic. Many memoirs, written by people in a position to observe these events, were used as well as the reports of the American, British, and French ambassadors in the German capital. -

CIV036 Darling Farah PR
Artist: Darling Farah Title: Body Format: Double 12” Vinyl & Digital Cat: CIV036 Label: Civil Music Release: 25 June 2012 ‘Body’ is the debut long player from 20 year old Darling Farah. Born in Detroit before relocating to the United Arab Emirates he is now in London, where in 3 short months this innovative debut was written. Deep, sophisticated and expertly reduced ‘Body’ showcases an artist striding forward at a rare pace, able to create almost overwhelming emotional dynamics, his is a world of daring introversion, increasing possibilities and resistance to classification. Traversing the Techno landscape with beautiful continuity the album navigates from beatless ambience, pulsing rhythms and machinist teutonics through dancefloor beats and cyclic 4/4 to Detroit soul and dub techno. Cohesive and effortless it will undoubtedly solidify the hype around it’s precociously talented producer. Fusing the purist aesthetics of his native Detroit with mechanical soul, metallic sounds and atmospheric mysticism ‘Body’ is an album brimming in sensation, tempered skill and emotional mastery. Spacious voids filled with decaying reverb contain sparse arrangements, machine-like characteristics and subtle euphorics. Dream-like textures expand and contract in three dimensions, illuminated with delayed pyrotechnics they contrast with taut rhythms and pneumatic grooves. Lucid yet hypnotic, sonic memories grow and recycle organically as delicate changes and subtle variations on a considered palette focus their effect on the mind while effortlessly moving the body. Opening with 'North', the cavernous atmospherics begin and spacious tension builds around the tough sparse beat. On 'Realised' a bouncing rhythm driven by the hiss of pistons and a tightly reverbed 808 kick buckles under swelling reverb and drowns in crackling digital ambience. -

There is no escape in Suche nach M. When painting the Jew, both Jews and non-Jews can only use brush strokes of color from the Christian-created palette of the mythic, wandering Jew, Ahasuerus, who is stained in the blood of deicide, emasculated, treacherous, and evil. -

Scientific Report (May 2013 – October 2015)
Scientific report (May 2013 – October 2015) Displacement, Deportation and Survival of the Jews from Bucovina. Literary Models of Identity and Memory Construction PN-II-RU-PD-2012-3–0233 STAGE 1 (May-December 2013) 1. Establishing the bibliographical apparatus The general and specific bibliography was identified by consulting the electronic catalogs of several libraries in Iasi (B.C.U), Bucharest (B.N.R, B.A.R, B.C.U.B), Vienna (Ö.N.B, Universitätsbibliothek, Bibliothek des Jüdischen Museums Wien), Jerusalem (National & University Library of Israel), Tel Aviv (Sourasky Central Library) and Berlin (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, HU / FU-Universitätsbibliothek). I have also accessed some relevant databases of numerous archives in Jerusalem and in New York (e.g. Yad Vashem, The Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People, Leo Baeck, YIVO) in order to determine the documentation needs. As a result of this documentation work it was identified a total of 197 bibliographical representative titles; this work will form the interpretative basis in the framework of the project. The bibliography has been divided into three main chapters: a) historical works and studies; b) literary and documentary-literary writings; c) studies in aesthetic theory, works related to the cultural studies. The bibliographical references cover various linguistic and cultural areas, allowing the consultation of a wide range of literature written in Romanian, German, French, English and Yiddish. 2. Deepening the theoretical and thematic framework of the project a) The regaining of Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina by Romania; the Bukovina Jews during the Second World War; the deportations to Transnistria In this stage, it was relevant to consider a critical reading of a specific text corpus, especially of historical studies in order to reveal the historical peculiarities of the Romanian Holocaust in an objective manner.
