Celebrations Press Release From Sandymount Tidy Towns Committee

Join us for a celebration of on Bloomsday, 16th June at 11 am in the Village Green in Sandymount.

Readings – Prose & Poetry Music & Song Breakfast in the Village Venue: Sandymount Green, 4 Date: Bloomsday, 16th June 2012 Time: 11:00 am

Joycean guided walk at 10am Start: Newbridge Avenue at the Dodder bridge Includes: Newbridge Ave, Leahys Terrace, Sandymount Strand, Dromard Terrace, Newgrove Avenue and the Village Green Time: Walk starts at 10:00 am and lasts about 1 hour

A day you must not miss is planned for Bloomsday in and around Sandymount Village Green this Saturday 16th ! The Sandymount Tidy Towns Committee along with local organisations, local businesses and Dublin City Council have put together a programme which has something for all ages and tastes and all are welcome– locals and visitors to the village. So come along and enjoy! The event is free.

The day starts at 10am with a guided walk from Newbridge Avenue at the Dodder bridge and it will stop at various places around the village mentioned in , arriving at the Green for the start of festivities at 11.00am. The walk will be lead by Rodney Devitt.

The green will be looking its best with lots of festive regalia. Starting at 11am bands will provide different types of music throughout the day – Irish and Jazz. Bring your dancing shoes! Local shops are putting on Joycean themed displays – so the atmosphere will be electric.

Visitors can enjoy a Joycean breakfast by meandering into our local traders who will be providing a choice of foods to suit a Bloomsday breakfast – who knows you may even enjoy a gorgonzola sandwich and a glass of burgundy! Suitably fortified, head next to the green where there will be readings and enactments from Joyce’s works in a celebratory atmosphere and ….further refreshments!

Readers will include Senator David Norris at 11:30 …..and will finish around 3pm.

The organisers are encouraging visitors and residents alike to dress for the occasion - Edwardian or fancy – as you fancy! There will be prizes for the best dressed gent, best dressed lady and best dressed child.

The main thing is to come and enjoy what will be a great day!
