Biographical/Historical note
The first campus master plan was developed by Harvey P. Smith, noted architect and preservationist. Smith is credited with establishing the Spanish Colonial theme that unified the campus with motifs such as arches, decorative interior tiles, and terra cotta tile roofs. Unfortunately, no copies of this plan have been found. Although the Board of Regents approved this plan (Board of Regents Minutes, May 15-16, 1944), the plan itself is not included as an attachment to the minutes.
Scope and Contents note
This series consists of campus master plan documents which guide the development of buildings and grounds. Plans generally include a current assessment of the campus, including enrollment figures, building use statistics, and a list of current construction and renovation projects. Planning assumptions, budgets, planning constraints, and design guidelines are generally included. In 2003, the 100-acre Round Rock Campus received its own master plan. The first building, named after the Avery family who donated the land, opened in August 2005.
