Because the presence of female poets in Iranian literature is a relatively recent phenomenon, there are few published studies describing and analysing Iranian women’s poetry; most of the critical studies that do exist were completed in the last three decades after the Revolution in 1979. -

"I saw myself released": The Impact of Modernization on Women's Literature in Pre-Revolution Iran, 1941-1979 By: Nasim Mogharab Thesis submitted to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the MA degree in History University of Ottawa © Nasim Mogharab, Ottawa, Canada 2016 Abstract This thesis examines the first collections of modern Persian literature written by Iranian female authors in the context of a process of gender modernization during the Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi’s reign (1941-1979). This thesis argues that women’s literature written during the period of transition from tradition to modernity is clearly influenced by the state’s gender policy and illustrates the changing position of women’s status in private and public life. Indeed, an examination of the collections of short stories and poems that were produced in this period demonstrates that female authors were concerned with the unveiling policy, arranged marriage and polygamy, women’s education, women’s social participation, women’s domestic obligations, women’s political awakening, and female sexuality. Furthermore, central themes covered by female authors changed significantly based on the transformations of gender politics the society experienced from the 1940s and 1950s to the 1960s and 1970s. -
Unknown by Maneli Aygani May 2012
Lady: Unknown By Maneli Aygani May 2012 3 “My dear teacher! Do we not enjoy freedom of thought? Yes, we do!” From Taj Saltaneh, Memoir book 4 1 Lady: Unknown1 Prologue, This is an essay for an art exhibition with the same name, which is created in appreciation for the effort and courage of women, who stand for their own and other’s rights. As an Iranian-born woman, my aim in this series is to challenge the stereotypical definitions of gender in my culture, and also to minimize and break free from my own fear and anger. I am interested to see how people with other cultural backgrounds will interpret the visual work and relate it to their own experience. Given the broad reality of discrimination across the world, I expect my works may gain the viewer’s sympathy, but sympathy is not enough for me; my main goal is to encourage viewers to become aware of things that might not have their full attention. 1 Lady Unknown (Banoo Nashenaas) was the nickname for one of the famous Iranian female singers in 1950s; because singing for women had been and still is an unconventional action, she had taken this nickname to keep her identity private. Her real name was Farahdokht Abbasi Taleqani and later was known as “Pooran.” 1 I was born and raised in Tehran in a culture with many contradictions. On the one hand, it is a culture with conservative traditions, discrimination, and social restrictions due to religion and Government. On the other hand, an inspiring culture still exists in Iran and has a great influence on people’s everyday life. -

Evaluation of Iranian Contemporary Nationalist Historiography Characteristics
Special Issue 1 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF HUMANITIES AND February 2016 CULTURAL STUDIES ISSN 2356-5926 Evaluation of Iranian Contemporary Nationalist Historiography Characteristics Dr. Morteza Dehghan Nejad Full Professor in Department of History, Isfahan University, Isfahan, Iran Zeinab Ahmadvand PhD student in Department of History, Isfahan University, Isfahan, Iran Ali Haddadi* MA Graduated in Department of History, Isfahan University, Isfahan, Iran *Corresponding author Abstract Novel Iranian historiography is strongly influenced by the nationalist dialogue. It has had a great impact on redefining the new Iranian identity in the contemporary era. The Pahlavi regime (emerged in 1925) produced and used that way of thinking in a modern way and differently from previous traditional governments. This study will take a look at the emerging of the modern Iranian identity from a historical-analytical perspective and attempt to determine why the common nationalist thinking in most recent Iranian historic literature is dominant. It mentions the most significant characteristics of that party’s historiography. New Iranian historic literature, influenced by the nationalist dialogue, has characteristics such as modernization, racism, Islamophobia, westernization, and egotism. Keywords: nationalist movement, nationalist historiography, modernization, national identity. http://www.ijhcs.com/index.php/ijhcs/index Page 993 Special Issue 1 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF HUMANITIES AND February 2016 CULTURAL STUDIES ISSN 2356-5926 1.
