It aims to guide the effects and interactions between landscape and human in the right way within the balance of protection / use by keeping sustainability at the forefront in the protection of natural resources. Landscape architecture should not be considered as an art only with aesthetic concerns or as a science with only functional purposes. From this point of view, it is inevitable for landscape architects to use different working methods in achieving the goals and objectives required by the profession and to consider the profession from different angles. Landscape architecture is an art and science branch with different approaches such as planning, design, management and engineering. This book contains invaluable studies containing information about the planning, design and management aspects of landscape architecture. E-mail: [email protected] ORCID ID: 0000- 0001-6882-0599 3 4 PLANNING, DESIGN AND MANAGMENT IN LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE INTRODUCTION Climate change, rapid population growth, unplanned structuring, unconscious use of natural resources, changes in the quality and quantity of water resources have determined environmental problems on a global scale as the most important agenda of the world (Singh and Singh, 2017). Agricultural industrialization, the construction of agricultural lands, the construction of large transportation networks without considering the natural and cultural structure cause serious degradation in natural and cultural landscapes (Baude et al., 2019), significant losses in habitats (Fardila et al., 2017), and the ecological structure of water basins is changing, ecological habitats are destroyed and fragmented, especially as a result of anthropogenic factors (Nathaniel et al., 2021). Land cover in urban and rural landscapes is changing with an increasing acceleration, and the ecological structure of water basins is deteriorating (Nendel et al., 2018). Bring this change under control within the scope of ensuring the continuity of ecological systems, reducing the pressure on nature, ensuring the sustainability of urban and rural landscapes is only possible by planning, protecting and managing these environments with an integrated approach. In particular, the protection and sustainability of water resources, which are essential for life, are of great importance for future generations. The negative changes that occur in water basins due to global climate change and temperature increases force countries to adopt approaches towards the protection of water basins (Wang et al., 2018). Watershed- based studies on water resources in Turkey has accelerated since the 5 1930s. The main objectives of those times were engineering studies within the scope of developing water resources to meet vital needs and preventing damages caused by water floods (Selim and Kaplan, 2016). In the following period, it is aimed to stop the natural resources and environmental degradation process ongoing for years in 25 sub- catchment basins in Turkey. In addition, it is aimed to determine and implement the 'integrated' natural resource management framework and strategy in order to protect flora and fauna, control ecosystem integrity, and increase the welfare level of the population living in the basin.     3rd DAY (27th MARCH) Trikala is a town in northwestern Thessaly, Greece, and the capital of the Trikala regional unit. It holds third place among the towns of Thessaly with respect to cultural and financial activities. The town is built close to the foothills of the Hasia mountain range and is divided into two parts by the Lithaios River . Located in the center of the valley of Thessaly, in the location of the ancient city of Trikki , it is a town with a rather new road plan and well-constructed roads, squares and parks. Trikala is the commercial and processing center for the farm produce of Trikala Prefecture. Infrastructure The General Hospital of the Trikala Prefecture is located in Trikala. The Physical Education and Sport Science Department of the University of Thessaly is also situated here, and was founded in 1994, with the first students being admitted in the academic year 1994-1995; it was originally housed in the Matsopoulos Park facility, but moved to the new Karyes campus in July 1999. Trikala has over 20 schools of secondary education and a modern night technical school. General Information There where myths were born and experiences never cease… Castles, elaborate figurines, ancient sites, byzantine churches and monasteries and beautiful bridges indicate a continuing uninterrupted civilization. Trikala Prefecture provides different majestic scenery at each glance and a different unforgettable experience each moment. The countryside terrain exhibits great variety. One comes across a wide range of customs and traditions and a great cultural heritage. Trikala Prefecture is one of the most fertile regions of Greece with rich crops of grains, cotton, pulses and other agricultural products not to mention the robust animal farming activities.

    OBSERVATIONS ON THE HISTORY OF NORTHERN GREECE DURING THE TURKISH RULE HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION OF THE TURKISH MONUMENTS OF KOMOTINI AND SERRES, THEIR PLACE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF OTTOMAN TURKISH ARCHITECTURE, AND THEIR PRESENT CONDITION * The rich cultural history of the later middle ages and of the modern times of many cities of present-day Northern Greece, and the often imposing architectu­ ral monuments of this period, which survived the wars and destructions of our century, still remain for the greater part unknown and unstudied. This period, coinciding almost entirely with that of the Turkish rule of the Balkans, certain­ ly deserves more attention. The area bordered by the snowy peaks of the Rho­ dope Mountains and the blue waters of the Aegean Sea constituted the oldest part of Turkish Europe, which remained in their hands without interruption since the days of its conquest in the third quarter of the 14th century, right up to 1912. Maybe because of the fertility of its soil and its strategic importance as a place through which the Via Egnatia ran, special attention was given to this territory in the days when the Ottoman Empire was at its zenith. The history, as well as the preserved monuments of this period, clearly testify to this. Dydi- motichon, the first Turkish residence on European soil, kept the Ottoman state treasury between its double circuit of walls.*1 A building which still reminds us of the time when it was an imperial residence, is the magnificent mosque on the central square of that place, built in 1420 at the order of Sultan Mehmed Celebi by the architect of the famous Green Mosque of the Anatolian Bursa, * This article is the fruit of five journeys in northern Macedonia in the years 1966, 1967, 1969, 1970 and 1971.
