ELECTION 2015 Governor’s race accounts for two-thirds of TV political ads

BATON ROUGE — Spending on TV advertising for Louisiana's Oct. 24 elec- tion grew by more than 32 percent over the last week, as candidates and outside groups pour millions into last-minute ads they hope can sway voters. More than $12.4 million has been pumped into TV ads through Monday, up more than $3 million from a week earlier, according to an analysis of ad spending by the Center for Public Integri- ty. Here' s a closer look at the advertising spending: LOUISIANA GOVERNOR Two-thirds of all televi- sion spending, about $8.3 million, was paid to promote or attack candidates for the open governor's seat. Of that money, 59 percent was spent by the campaigns of the four major contenders in the race: Republican Pub- lic Service Commissioner Scott Angelle, Republican Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne, Demo- cratic state Rep. John Bel Edwards and Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter. The remaining 41 percent, or $3.4 million, was spent by political action committees trying to influence the race, largely through attack ads against candidates. Put a small seed into the earth and with the addition of a bit of rain and sunshine it returns a hundredfold. The energy stored within every atom manifests a similar superabundance. There is much to be said for giving and living abundantly.abundantl When we do so we almost always reap more than we sow. We may not understand the secret connections and mechanisms underlying abundance—who but the botanist and the Creator really understands how the tiny acorn becomes the mighty oak?—but we can trust that it is there. Perhaps nowhere do we see this more clearly than in those who give of themselves unselfishly. These saintly people who give it all away are from all appearances the happiest people in our midst, while the misers who can’tcan bear to give anything away often seem small, petty, and unhappy by comparison. So give and live abundantly, and most of all, do not skimp in your giving back to God. It will return to you many times over, though the riches you reap may be spiritual rather than material. – Christopher Simon
