Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity Alpha Boule SIGMA PI PHI FRATERNITY ALPHA BOULE 4120 APALOGEN ROAD PHILADELPHIA, PA. 19144 28 December 1995 (215) 849-0714 To : All Archons of Alpha Boule From: Melvin J. Chisum, Grammateus Alpha Boule's next meeting will be held on Sunday, January 7th at the Wyncliffe House of the Temple University Conference Center (Sgarif), 9230 Germantown Averue, inthe Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia. The schedule for the evening's activities: Executive Committee Meeting. 4 P. M. Social Hour . 5 P. M. Dinner. 6 P. M. Business Meeting/Program . 7 P. M. In the event of your inability to attend the meeting, please notify one of our hosts: Andrew Delgado at 748-0429 (B) or 610-622-0950 (H), or Hart Dixon at 610-623-2848 (H). At this meeting, the program will consist of a discussion by Archon Frank McClellan on the topic of "Current Issues in Health Care Law," a subject which involves each of us directly or indirectly, and on which he is acknowledged to be an expert. The book he authored on the subject, published earlier this year, has been quite well received. I heard him lecture at Temple University Law School during the fall on the subject, and on the basis of that experience, I expect that we are in for an entertaining, informative discussion of a timely topic. 1996 dues are the same as 1995: $800, and they are payable now. As in the past, in order to accomodate those who find it a true problem to pay their dues in full now, we are establishing a schedule, but please remember that (1) we need your dues now in order to finance our on-going activities, and (2) partial payments increase the work load on your officers. The schedule?: To avoid delinquency, $550 of your dues must be paid by the February meeting, and they must be paid in full by the March meeting. Dues may be mailed to the Grammateus at any time, or delivered to him at the meeting. The minutes of the November meeting are enclosed for your review. The Sire Archon will request their adoption at the meeting. Please note that as indicated in the appended minutes, the election of officers (Sire Archon-Elect, Grammateus, Thesauristes, Rhetoricos [Chairman of the Program Committee], Agogos, Grapter and Archivist) will be held at the March meeting. MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF 12 NOVEMBER 1995, HELD IN THE WYNCLIFFE HOUSE OF THE TEMPLE UNIVERSITY CONFERENCE CENTER, 9230 GERMANTOWN AVENUE The meeting was called to order according to the ritual by Sire Archon' Beard at 7:32 P. CBCF CHAIR'S MESSAGE "AFoundation Expanding Opportunities" n he history of Black America is the history ofa people BTf who have overcome tremendous odds, triumphed over the adversity of slavery and segregation, and found opportunity in hardship. we come together for the 21st Annual Legislative Weekend, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation is rAsproud to celebrate these achievements and to help chart a course for the future that willenable us to continue to build on the successes of the past. The civil rights era inaugurated by Thurgood j^ Marshall and other champions of justice was marked by the \u25a0 passage of landmark legislation banning discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, and the voting booth. Thanks to this watershed period of progress in our Congressman Alan Wheat nation's recent past, an unprecedented number of Black Americans are now beginning to realize economic security. Yetrecent events have shown us that we cannot take these gains for granted. Although a vibrant and growing Black middle-class willcontinue to make headway in the 19905, a dismaying portion of our population faces a bleak future as a result of governmental indifference and neglect during the last ten years. An increasingly hostile Supreme Court has begun to chip away at the legal underpinnings of our nation's antibias safety net and the current Administration has shown itself willingto play racial politics withlegislative safeguards against discrimination. In the face of these new obstacles to progress, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation is rising to the challenge of developing strategies to address the inequities that continue to confront modern society and to create new opportunities for an increasingly diverse Black American population.
