At this meeting, the program will consist of a discussion by Archon Frank McClellan on the topic of "Current Issues in Health Care Law," a subject which involves each of us directly or indirectly, and on which he is acknowledged to be an expert. The book he authored on the subject, published earlier this year, has been quite well received. I heard him lecture at Temple University Law School during the fall on the subject, and on the basis of that experience, I expect that we are in for an entertaining, informative discussion of a timely topic. 1996 dues are the same as 1995: $800, and they are payable now. As in the past, in order to accomodate those who find it a true problem to pay their dues in full now, we are establishing a schedule, but please remember that (1) we need your dues now in order to finance our on-going activities, and (2) partial payments increase the work load on your officers. The schedule?: To avoid delinquency, $550 of your dues must be paid by the February meeting, and they must be paid in full by the March meeting. Dues may be mailed to the Grammateus at any time, or delivered to him at the meeting. The minutes of the November meeting are enclosed for your review. The Sire Archon will request their adoption at the meeting. Please note that as indicated in the appended minutes, the election of officers (Sire Archon-Elect, Grammateus, Thesauristes, Rhetoricos [Chairman of the Program Committee], Agogos, Grapter and Archivist) will be held at the March meeting. MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF 12 NOVEMBER 1995, HELD IN THE WYNCLIFFE HOUSE OF THE TEMPLE UNIVERSITY CONFERENCE CENTER, 9230 GERMANTOWN AVENUE The meeting was called to order according to the ritual by Sire Archon' Beard at 7:32 P. M. Attendance: Present 26 active and 1 emeritus archons, excused 10 archons, absent 20 archons. The Sire called for the Grammateus' report. The latter requested any additions or corrections to the circulated minutes. There being none, a motionwas requested and properly passed accepting them. Haannounced that there had been further discussion of the case of Archon Evans. The Grammateus was instructed to write Archon Evans in accordance with the provisions of Article III of the fraternity's constitutiop. A letter had been written to Archon Baker which he answered. He is now located in Highland Park, Illinois and has taken preliminary steps t9 affiliate himself' with the Chicago North Shore Boule. The Grand Sire ,Archon has addressed an invitation to each' archon advising them of the'preparations being made for Grand Boul e in Houston in July. The GrammateNs added hi support to this plea for a good representation from Alpha at'that affair. The program at the January meeting will be a discussion by Archon Frank' McClellan on the subject of "Current Issues in Health Care Law." Archon Ed Kenton gave the entertainment Committee repot. Details are being wrapped up for the Christnas party. The archons will make indiviial arrangements for parking their cars. Valet parking is available 'at the door of the h otel1 and there is a parkinggarage convenientIy located across the'street just south of the ho l. The decision' hks been made not to use assigned seating. At leasy 6 rooms wil be available at a reduced rate for archons who' wish to spend the night in the hotel, as well as one or tYwo comfort rooms to accommodate those who may wish to change clothes, etc. during the evening. Archon Chris Lewis gave the Membership Council report. Our roll Gil accomodate 3 additional archons. He proposes to develop a list of candidates, possibly for induction at the April meeting. Arch'on- Jones raised the question of increasing scholarship support and has agreed to try to develop concrete proposals to this ~end. The Sije Archon reports tha he has rev'eived indication from the.ire Archoh of Delta Epsilon that they would be agreeable to co-hosting the f3, centennial Grand Bo'le. The mater will be formally presented to Delta Epsilop by their Sire at their meeting. Archons Stokes andNolan Atkinson, Jr. have been added to the 2004 Committee. "I'he decision was reached that we would. hold election of officers at the March.meeting. The Grammates suggested that special thought be giijen to. nominees for Sire Archon-Elect and Grammateus and repeated his statement that he is not available for re-election. The question had been raised during the E;ecutive Committee about the policy regarding requests for the Boule maililh list. Archon Lewis famed a motion, which was the consensus of the Executive Committee: To reiterate the long~ standing policy that all requests for the Boule mailing list are to be referred to the Sire Archon. The motion was properly seconded and passed. It is further understood that when t1ge list of archons is supplied to an organization, the names will be supplied with n reference to Boule mnembership. SIGMA PI PHI FRATERNITY ALPHA BOULE' Minutes of the meeting of February 2, 1997 held at the home of Archon Christopher Lewis, 520 Sugartown Road, Devon, PA. Hosts: Archons Lewis and Lomax. Archons arrived at 4:00 and socialized while having cocktails and a most delicious buffet. BUSINESS MEETING The business meeting was called to order according to the ritual by Sire Archon Earle Bradford at 5:00 PM. Present were Archons Johnson, Kenton, Huggins, Goode, Lomax, Bradford, Harvey, Polite, Bryant, Hutchins, J.Miller, Dixon, Chisum, Cooper, Atkinson, Edmunds, Holloway, Cliff Greene, Davenport, Brown, Horton, Lewis. Sire Archon Bradford presented changes based on the results of the recent survey. 1. Hosts should identify interesting places for meetings to be held. 2. When possible, speakers should be chosen from the membership. The Program Committee will continue to function as a backup, and will plan long range projects Membership Committee Archon Lewis, committee chairman, presented the names of two candidates for membership whose resumes have been properly circulated. They were Bertram Scott, sponsored by Archon Ellis and Curtis Joyner, sponsored by Archon Giles. Motion for approval, seconded, carried by secret ballot. Sponsors were asked to inform candidates of this action and invite them to become members. The Orientation And Induction Committee was asked to determine the best occasion for properly bringing these men into the organization. Entertainment Committee Archon Kenton reminded the group that Delta Epsilon will not be participating with Alpha in the Christmas party of "97. He thanked everyone for the cooperation given him in his tenure as co- chairman. Appreciation was shown Archon Kenton with a round of applause. Northeast Regional Meeting Sire Bradford emphasized the importance of our presence at the Northeast Regional meeting - especially if we are to become politically effective. Date : September 26, 27 and 28 1997 Place: Marriott Hotel, Springfield, MA Dues Emphasis was placed on the importance of completing payment of dues by the March meeting. If an Archon can not be present at the March meeting, he is asked to send his dues to the grammateus. Adjournment Archon Kenton thanked the hosts and the business meeting was adjourned at 5:33. THE PROGRAM The speaker of the evening was Steven L Sanders, who at age 26 founded his first company in Philadelphia, Sanders Investment Advisors. Now in its 11th year, the Investment Firm manages $500 million for over 400 business and individual clientele throughout the country. Mr. Sanders has further distinguished himself as an institutional money manager, C.E.O. of Financial Educational Company, a member of Black Enterprise Magazine's "Investment Roundtable", national spokesperson for Citibank, Mastercard & Visa"s Money Matter For Young Adults, board member of the Philadelphia Airport Board, and several other civic boards geared toward development and education of youth. Mr. Sanders carried us through an overview of mutual funds, technologic stocks, 401K's, 401B's, index funds, aggressive growth funds, global influences and the dynamics thereof. He completed his presentation with a topic which is obviously close to his heart - that of the importance of giving our youth a basic understanding of personal finance while they are in high school and college.
