April 2018-June 2019 (5 Direct Reports and 12 total employees) As the Vice Provost, I directly oversee staff responsible for Leadership Development & Assessment, Campus Police, Exum Wellness Center, University Health & Counseling Services, Campus Life, Student Conduct, Residential Life, and Disability Services. Since arriving at Kentucky State University, I have partnered with the campus partners in creating a seamless student experience from application to graduation and career. I have assisted with the reorganization of Student Engagement while supporting the University in implementing the Strategic Plan. Started a circle of Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society. Assistant Professor of Education & Human Development BELMONT UNIVERSITY – Nashville, Tennessee (8,000 students) Associate Provost & Dean of Students. December 2013-November 2017 (7 Direct Reports and 62 total employees) As the Chief Student Affairs Officer for the University, my responsibility was to exercise broad oversight of the University's Student Affairs programs and operations. I had direct oversight for the staff responsible for the Bridges to Belmont Scholars Program, Student Health & Welfare (University Health Services, Counseling Services, Fitness & Recreation); Campus Life and Community (Housing and Residential Life, Beaman Student Life Center); Student Activities (Student Organizations, Greek Life, Student Conduct, and Convocation); and Student Advocacy & Support (Multicultural Learning & Experience, Disability Services, New Student & Parent Programs, Students at Concerns System and Growth & Purpose for Students (GPS)). Facilitate and approve planning for program implementation, hiring and evaluation personnel, creation of policies, and oversee a $40 million budget. Assist in creation of new academic programs. Since arriving at Belmont University, I have partnered with the School of Education on program development (MED in Higher Education Administration). I enhance Counseling Servicers to appropriate staffing ratios. I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with the Provost’s Council and other talented community members around best practices as related to responding to mental health issues and getting prepared to implement the requirements of the Campus SaVE Act as required by the federal government. We have also gone through reorganization while supporting the University in early phases of the Vision 2020 Strategic Plan. I have initiated the creation of multicultural organizations for overall student development. I also taught a cohort of the First Year Seminar class. Chartered two National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations and reactivated one. ALABAMA AGRICULTURAL &MECHANICAL UNIVERSITY – Normal, Alabama (5,000 students) Vice President for Student Affairs. May 2012-November -2013 (10 Direct reports and 138 total employees) (Served as Interim Vice President from September 2008 to May 2012) As Vice President for Student Affairs, I was responsible for the following units/areas: Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management, Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Public Safety (Certified Police Department), Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, Student Conduct, Residence Life and Housing, Counseling and Health Services, International Programs, Veteran Affairs and Disability Services, Intramural Sports and Recreation, Student Wellness Center, Career Development Services, Campus Bookstore (Follett), and Student Activities and Leadership Development, (Student Government Association, Program Advisory Council, National PanHellenic Council-NPHC, student organizations, Amuite Yearbook, and the Maroon & White newspaper), and the University Center. Additionally, I oversaw operations of the University Band. I initiated a partnership with the University of the Netherlands Antilles in International Business. Lead in strategically creating opportunities for community college student access to the University. Also, served as the acting chair for the Alabama A & M University Foundation managing $41 million in assets. I was responsible for the creation of an operation and business plan for the new $15 million Wellness Center. As Vice President enrollment began to increase under my leadership. Created opportunity for financial game guarantees for Bulldog athletics. Assisted in fundraising initiatives for the University. Dean of Students. August 2007- August 2012 (5 Direct Reports and 43 total employees) As Dean of Students, I assisted the Vice President for Student Affairs with the supervision and day-to-day operations of the units/areas: Residence Life & Housing, Student Activities, Judicial Affairs, Counseling & Development, International Student Services and managed the University Center. In addition, I represented the division on University-wide committees and task forces. I also served as the student judicial affairs administrator for the University and the division liaison with academic affairs and enrollment support services. During a time of transition, I served as the Director of Residence Life & Housing Major Division and University Initiatives directly involved in included the following: Selection of University Bookstore, SACS Reaccreditation Task Force, University Registration Committee, Freshman Academy Planning Team, Enrollment Management Task Force, and division budget preparation. I was responsible for creating the vision for the Black Male Initiative and Black Women’s Initiative. I created the on-call emergency response plan for Residence Life. I initiated Bulldog Parent Association. Along with University President implemented mandatory “Greekdom Class” for all students interested in joining a National Pan-Hellenic Council organization, other social fraternities and sororities and the University band. Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership/Urban Affairs UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE AT CHATTANOOGA – Chattanooga, Tennessee (10,000 students) Associate Dean of Students & Director of Multicultural Affairs. June 2005-July 2007 (4 Direct Reports) As Associate Dean of Students I reported to the Assistant Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students. My daily responsibilities were as the chief conduct officer for the University and the diversification and multicultural education of the campus community. My seven major responsibilities were: Coordination and supervision of student conduct, directing the office of Multicultural Affairs, advising the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), advised SPECTRUM (GLBTQ student organization), directing the University’s volunteer services efforts, directing the University Bound high school transition program, advising a cohort of campus ministries and coordination of an advocacy group for men against violence. During my time at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, I streamlined the judicial process with technology and drafted the plan for the current Multicultural Center on campus.
