In just three minutes and 35 seconds of action at quarterback, he directed three touchdown drives. He was three-of-three while passing for 91 yards and one touchdown and he carried the ball five times for 77 yards, making him the game’s leading rusher. His carries included a 45-yard scoring jaunt that was the game’s longest play from scrimmage. Besides all that, he also threw for a two-point conversion, was the holder for Chadron State’s four conversion kicks, snapped the ball on all three of the Eagles’ punts and made two tackles as a member of the special teams. “I had a lot of fun today” is about all O’Boyle said when asked about his production. “It’s always fun when we win. I was glad I could contribute.” This is the third year that O’Boyle, a 6-foot-4, 210-pounder from Gering, has given the Eagles a change of pace while he shares playing time at quarterback with starter Jonn McLain. The Eagles took an 8-0 lead, but did not score on two more trips to the opponents 10-yard line in the first quarter. After the Eagles’ defense forced the Miners to punt as the opening quarter was closing, the CSC coaches decided to unveil the team’s “Pat Project,” that has O’Boyle calling the signals.

Jay Long Head Coach/Offensive Line Third Year

No doubt about it, Jay Long has turned heads in just two years as Chad- ron State’s head football coach. Under Long’s guidance, the Eagles went 9-3 overall, 8-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and hosted West Texas A&M in the first round of the playoffs in 2012. The Eagles ended the season as the 18th ranked team in the nation by both the American Football Coaches Association and D2Football.com. In 2013, the Eagles went 8-3 and finished second in the RMAC. In two years, Long, who also serves as the offensive line coach, has coached five all-conference linemen, three All-Americans, a Harlon Hill national finalist, and mentored All-American and NFL player, Garrett Gilkey. Long is the 25th head football coach at CSC and the third who also played for the Eagles. Orin Weymouth and Ruffus Trapp also played and coached for Chadron State but a former football player hasn’t coached for the school since 1937. Previous Coaching Experience Prior to being hired at Chadron State in February 2012, Long spent three Black Hills State Head Coach (2009-11) seasons as the head coach at Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D., where he Offensive Coordinator (2007-08) has guided the Yellowjackets to a 15-15 record. Offensive Line Coach (2003-06) Prior to being the head coach, he was an assistant coach at the school Wayne State Graduate Asst. (2001) from 2003-09. During that time he served as the offensive coordinator, of- Assistant Coach (2002) fensive line coach, recruiting coordinator and the strength and condition- ing coach. The Yellowjackets won two conference titles and appeared in Year-by-Year Record the NAIA playoffs two times while Long coached the offensive line.
