The first is to present a comparison of recent theories of Balinese music, specifically with regard to techniques of melodic elaboration. By comparing the work of Wayan Rai, Made Bandem, Wayne Vitale, and Michael Tenzer, I will investigate how various scholars choose to conceptualize melodic elaboration in modern genres of Balinese gamelan. The second goal is to illustrate the varying degrees to which contemporary composers in the form known as Tabuh Kreasi are expanding this musical vocabulary. In particular I will examine their innovative approaches to melodic elaboration. Analysis of several examples will illustrate how some composers utilize and distort standard compositional techniques in an effort to challenge listeners' expectations while still adhering to indigenous concepts of balance and flow. Wrong only are the districts of West Pasaman which is disaster subscription area annually. One district in this district is a vulnerable area, especially landslide disaster. B aik landslides and flooding have the same potential cause casualties. Flood and landslide in West Pasaman regency can not be separated from the human influence that is not good in managing the environment at around their settlement. Awareness of environmental management should continue next with various programs. The program is called SSB (Disaster Alert School). SSB is a new program and still needs to be developed, especially in Pasaman West District. Some of Elementary School (SD) located in disaster-prone areas need sosialisation to achieve the goals discussed earlier. The whole district is a region that has many hills with houses and places of study in the form of elementary school in slope - the slope The hill is very necessary to prepare the next generation of the current-generation pre-disaster and post-disaster occur. This is done to anticipate the number casualties. Results research obtained is 12,8% of 49 respondents not yet understand about preparedness to disaster-related problem prevention to disaster flood and landslide. -

Talempong Kreasi and Talempong Goyang in West Sumatra
HUMANIORA VOLUME 29 Number 3 October 2017 Page 245–255 Postcolonial Aesthetics: Talempong Kreasi and Talempong Goyang in West Sumatra Andar Indra Sastra, Nadya Fulzi, Syahri Anton E-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT The aim of this article is to disclose the postcolonial aesthetics of talempong kreasi and talempong goyang in West Sumatra. Aesthetics can be defined as a sense of perception or the various kinds of feelings that are aroused by an art object that is being observed. Postcolonialism is understood to be the continuation of colonialism; hence postcolonial aesthetics discusses the sense of perception, in this case with reference to talempong kreasi and talempong goyang as the material object. Talempong is a type of bronze musical instrument found in West Sumatra; the word kreasi means ‘creation’ or something new, while the word goyang means ‘rocking’ or ‘swaying’ and refers to the body movements of the spectators as they appear to dance in time to the talempong music. The addition of the words kreasi and goyang after the word talempong create the impression that this type of music belongs to the domain of popular music. The emergence of these two concepts in West Sumatra cannot be separated from the influence and power of a number of leading figures in the field of education – specifically artists – from the colonial era, who had a background in Western music education. Talempong kreasi and talempong goyang are dynamic in nature and have the ability to play both major and minor melodies as the talempong instruments are tuned to chromatic pitches. The tuning system of the talempong is akin to that of diatonic musical instruments, and as a musical system it presents the harmonies of Western music through its melodies and chords. -

Pendekar Sanders had a very successful seminar in Ireland with Guru Liam McDonald on May 15-16, a very large and successful seminar at Guru Besar Jeff Davidson’s school on June 5-6 and he just returned from a seminar in England. The seminar at Guru Besar Jeff Davidson’s was video taped and the 2 volume set can be purchased through Raja Naga. Tape 1 consists of blakok (crane) training and Tape 2 has about 15 minutes more of blakok training followed by a very intense training session in various animal possessions including the very rare Raja Naga possession. Guru Besar Davidson and his students should be commended on their excellent portrayal of the art. Tape 1 is available to the general public, but due to the intense nature of tape 2 you must be a student. It is with great sadness that I must report that Guru William F. Birge passed away. William was a long time personal student of Pendekar Sanders and he will be missed by all of the people that he came into contact with. 1 Tribute to Guru William F. It is thus a distribution study, in line with others that have looked at the distribution of musical elements in Indonesia (Kunst 1939), the Philippines (Maceda 1998), Oceania (McLean 1979, 1994, 2014), and the region peripheral to the South China Sea (Revel 2013). With the exception of McLean, these studies have focused exclusively on material culture, namely musical instruments, tracing their geographical distribution and the vernacular terms associated with them. The aim has been to reveal cultural continuities and discontinuities and propose hypotheses about prehistoric settlement and culture contact in Insulindia and Oceania. -

Individual capacity is important because human become actors who perform efforts for their future. Regency Government of West Pasaman is one of local governments in West Sumatera Province, Republic of Indonesia, which has undergone the proliferation process. Efforts related to the proliferation that the regency has been doing are education and training and further study program for its government staff and civil servants in order to improve their quality. West Pasaman Regency provides in class and out-of-class education and training programs. It provides further education program by giving opportunities to its government staff and civil servants to attend higher education at diploma, graduate, and post-graduate levels. This study applied a phenomenological approach if West Pasaman Regency had succeeded to undertake the proliferation while most of proliferated areas nationwide failed. The study focus was on individual capacity building as a key to successful proliferation and to performing local autonomy. LAGU KIDDUNG DALEM DALAM UPACARA ADAT NYONGKOLAN SUKU SASAK DI KABUPATEN LOMBOK TENGAH (BENTUK PENYAJIAN DAN BENTUK LAGU) Lalu Muhammad Gitan Prahana Mahasiswa S1 Pendidikan Sendratasik Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Surabaya [email protected] Joko Winarko, S.Sn, M.Sn Dosen Jurusan Pendidikan Sendratasik Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Surabaya [email protected] ABSTRAK Lagu Kiddung Dalem merupakan satu lagu tradisi dalam musik tradisional Gendang Beleq, yang disajikan secara instrumental di rumah pengantin perempun, dalam prosesi upacara adat Nyongkolan suku Sasak pulau Lombok, Nusa Tenggara Barat. Lagu Kiddung Dalem digunakan sebagai bentuk ekspresi dari rasa syukur, kegembiraan, kekeluargaan dan juga untuk menyampaikan petuah–petuah adat dalam suku Sasak. Bahkan digunakan sebagai sarana melegitimasi kelangsungan kehidupan tradisi adat melalui prosesi adat pernikahan. Sehingga akan sangat menarik dilakukan penelitian dengan rumusan masalah (1) Bagaimanakah bentuk penyajian lagu Kiddung Dalem dalam prosesi upacara adat Nyongkolan di suku Sasak, dan (2) Bagaimanakah bentuk lagu Kiddung Dalem dalam upacara adat Nyongkolan suku Sasak. Kajian pustaka yang digunakan didalam penelitian, mengacu sumber buku–buku yang berkaitan mengenai bentuk penyajian seni pertunjukan dan bentuk sertaa struktur didalam lagu. Penelitian yang digunakan, menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif, dengan lokasi penelitian di kelurahan Gerunung, kabupaten Lombok Tengah, Nusa Tenggara Barat. Hasil penelitian berupa sajian data bersifat diskriptif tentang bentuk penyajian dan bentuk lagu Kiddung Dalem yang disajikan saat upacara adat Nyongkolan berlangsung. Dalam penelitian tentang bentuk penyajian, peneliti menemukan data meliputi, (1) Instrumentasi, yaitu ragam jenis alat musik beserta pola–pola sajain yang dimainkan oleh 17 pemusik atu Sekhe. (2) Setting pertunjukan, dilakukan di halaman rumah pengantin perempuan ketika prosesi adat Nyongkolan berlangsung.
