Setup your system through MATE

Network Manager does not support default setup while managing connections especially with distribution like 7 or Mint 17 that comes with the MATE desktop. However, to install using Gnome or KDE Desktop Environments, few extra steps would be required. These steps are as follows:

1 Open Terminal

2 Install OpenVPN, and Network Manager sudo apt-get install openvpn network-manager-openvpn-

A Network Manager icon will be added in the task bar but your network connections will not be managed by the Network Manager.

3 Type the following remedy in the terminal: sudo nano /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf (any editor like nano, pico, or vi can be used) However, you will be facing a hard time in editing the file for which you will require a sudo and the computer admin password as this will be located at a critical area on Your .

Your text editor will show:

[ifupdown] managed=false

You need to change it to: [ifupdown] managed=true.

4 To make the new setting effective, restart Network Manager. The following needs to be typed in the terminal: sudo service network-manager restart
