The twosome, from Bologna, debuted on RDV Music back in March 2019, appearing on the Récit de Voyage various artists compilation. Since then they’ve been pushing out their brand of supple deep house via their own imprint Orion Records. Here we’re treated to four original cuts as the duo demonstrate their production prowess… The first track ‘Windom Earle’ (for all the Twin Peaks fans) encapsulates Orion’s ability to channel classic deep house tropes through their contemporary lens. Juxtaposing a dense low end with airy top layers, the cut tantalises your mind and moves your body at the same time. Chugging beats and subtle hypnotic melodies give this track its strong gravitational pull. Next up is ‘Samui’ which is powered by a rubbery bassline and morose wind section. This one tells a story, progression steadily as new arrangements and layers come into play emphasising different emotional strands. Wait for the analogue squelch… On the flip ‘Global Channel’ features a snub-nosed kick drum, which gives the track more urgency. Jazzy notes pop in and out of the background, playfully dancing with the other elements to create a multi-voice chorus. As the track develops Orion tease in additional hints of percussion to up the pace a little, while also using pads to amplify the track’s overall character. Lastly, it’s ‘JRB’, a spacious organic sounding production which showcases Orion’s dexterity. The atmosphere is light, shaving away the low frequencies to allow the top end to really flourish. A couple of vocal snippets are used to great effect, and the duo keep things very focused making this a repetitive, hypnotic trip into the deeper side of club music Tracklisting: A1 Windom Earl > http://play.syncrophone.fr/syncro/rdv06a1.mp3 A2 Samui > http://play.syncrophone.fr/syncro/rdv06a2.mp3 B1 Global Channel>http://play.syncrophone.fr/syncro/rdv06b1.mp3 B2 JRB> http://play.syncrophone.fr/syncro/rdv06b2.mp3 TALMAN RECORDS TALMAN10 DEBUSSY SPICEBOX EP HOUSE 12 6.19 DJ STEAW REMIX Mysterious Project Debussy debut release on Talman Records with a remix from french producer Dj Steaw. This album foresaw the rise of the young producer, who has since piled up project on top of project, and record on top of record. One of the driving forces behind the D.KO label, and a (literal) key player of the Secret Value Orchestra band, Paul has also thrived on collaborations. Whether with Chez Damier, Jef K, Flabaire… They all fall under the spell of the young pianist’s skill, who has become in just a few years one of the leading figures of French house. In 2019, Paul joined house legend Larry Heard for his world tour, and multiplied appearances at famed festivals such as Glastonbury, Dimensions, DGTL or Printworks. In 2020 Popcorn Records is turning 10. And to mark the occasion, Paul is coming back to his beloved label to unveil his first album. More than a year of thought and work went into “Le Bal des Douaniers”. An album composed of 10 titles, which all reflect fragments of Paul Cut’s influences. Tracklisting: A1. EDM (Dance Music): Disco, Techno, House, Raves… ANTHRO 106 2018 Rebellion, genre, drugs, freedom, unity, sex, technology, place, community …………………. Disco • Disco marked the dawn of dance-based popular music. • Growing out of the increasingly groove-oriented sound of early '70s and funk, disco emphasized the beat above anything else, even the singer and the song. • Disco was named after discotheques, clubs that played nothing but music for dancing. • Most of the discotheques were gay clubs in New York • The seventies witnessed the flowering of gay clubbing, especially in New York. For the gay community in this decade, clubbing became 'a religion, a release, a way of life'. The camp, glam impulses behind the upsurge in gay clubbing influenced the image of disco in the mid-Seventies so much that it was often perceived as the preserve of three constituencies - blacks, gays and working-class women - all of whom were even less well represented in the upper echelons of rock criticism than they were in society at large. • Before the word disco existed, the phrase discotheque records was used to denote music played in New York private rent or after hours parties like the Loft and Better Days. The records played there were a mixture of funk, soul and European imports. These "proto disco" records are the same kind of records that were played by Kool Herc on the early hip hop scene. - STARS and CLUBS • Larry Levan was the first DJ-star and stands at the crossroads of disco, house and garage. He was the legendary DJ who for more than 10 years held court at the New York night club Paradise Garage.

  • In the Studio With
