This endangered species is legally protected in Poland: it has been included in the Polish red book of plants (category EN) and in the national and local Red lists (Red list of vascular fl ora of Wielkopolska – category EN). In June , two sites of this rare species has been found in the Notecka Forest (Karwin Forest District – north west Wielkopolska). This paper presents the results of verifi cation of the new sites of C. rubra and shows present state of knowledge of conservation, distribution and threat degree of the mentioned species in the area of the Wielkopolska and Ziemia Lubuska regions. UNIVERSITY OF READING Delivering biodiversity and pollination services on farmland: a comparison of three wildlife- friendly farming schemes Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Centre for Agri-Environmental Research School of Agriculture, Policy and Development Chloe J. Hardman June 2016 Declaration I confirm that this is my own work and the use of all material from other sources has been properly and fully acknowledged. Chloe Hardman i Abstract Gains in food production through agricultural intensification have come at an environmental cost, including reductions in habitat diversity, species diversity and some ecosystem services. Wildlife- friendly farming schemes aim to mitigate the negative impacts of agricultural intensification. In this study, we compared the effectiveness of three schemes using four matched triplets of farms in southern England. The schemes were: i) a baseline of Entry Level Stewardship (ELS: a flexible widespread government scheme, ii) organic agriculture and iii) Conservation Grade (CG: a prescriptive, non-organic, biodiversity-focused scheme). We examined how effective the schemes were in supporting habitat diversity, species diversity, floral resources, pollinators and pollination services. Farms in CG and organic schemes supported higher habitat diversity than farms only in ELS. Plant and butterfly species richness were significantly higher on organic farms and butterfly species richness was marginally higher on CG farms compared to farms in ELS. The species richness of plants, butterflies, solitary bees and birds in winter was significantly correlated with local habitat diversity. Organic farms supported more evenly distributed floral resources and higher nectar densities compared to farms in CG or ELS. Compared to maximum estimates of pollen demand from six bee species, only organic farms supplied sufficient pollen in late summer.

The two institutions have greatly contributed to the development of Polish studies including dialectology. The presented information pertains chiefly to the relatively unknown accomplishments of the dialectology team, for example a phonographic archive containing recordings of utterances of informants born in the second half of the 19th century (the oldest interlocutor was born in 1855). Together with contemporary recordings, the collection contains approximately 3,700 hours of rural speech. The entire archive is available in a digital version. The text is supplemented with information about the history of Poznań dialectology and the contemporary activities of the team of the Dialectology Workshop at the Poznań University, mainly lexicographic works. Key words: history of dialectology in Poznań, Polish studies at the AMU, Poznań Society for the Advancement of Arts and Sciences, lexicography of Wielkopolska dialects. We thank all of you. The bulk of the text was compiled by Sam Droege at the USGS Native Bee Inventory and Monitoring Lab over several years from 2004-2008. We regularly update the manual with new information, so, if you have a new technique, some additional ideas for sections, corrections or additions, we would like to hear from you. Please email those to Sam Droege ([email protected]). You can also email Sam if you are interested in joining the group’s discussion group on bee monitoring and identification. Many thanks to Dave and Janice Green, Tracy Zarrillo, and Liz Sellers for their many hours of editing this manual. Czarna Department of Botany, Poznań University of Life Sciences, Wojska Polskiego 71c, 60-625 Poznań, Poland Received: 7 August, 2007 Accepted: 28 January, 2008 Abstract Our paper presents research on flora, its characteristics and differences, at two adjacent railway stations in Powodowo, western Poland. One of stations has been shut down while the other continues to serve as a site of cement and lime handling. The presence or absence of such operations has been found to affect flora. At the operating station we have observed a larger number of species and families, as well as a relatively greater share of annual and non-indigenous (foreign) plants. At the non-operating station we have observed a rela- tively greater proportion of indigenous (native) species, particularly those common in meadow areas and a large share of perennial species. These observations indicate that a process of spontaneous flora naturalization has been underway at the non-operating station. Both of the stations are home to species that are otherwise rare in the region of Wielkopolska such as Carex ligerica, Epilobium adnatum and Medicago minima. Keywords: railway stations, vascular plants Introduction sections of railways being used occasionally or being shut down altogether [14-15].
