Those who have severe symptoms should go to the emergency department. We have directed all clinics and health centres to refer all suspected cases to the Hamad General Hospital for further tests,” said Al Hajri. The disease can now be detected in Qatar at the spe- cialised laboratory at HMC which is equipped with latest technology. Al Hajri said it was difficult to say if any of the three cases was originated in Qatar. “This has posed a major challenge. The disease is mostly found in the Middle Eastern countries but a few cases have been reported in some like China. We are expecting more cases in the days to come and are advising people to take precautions,” said Al Hajri. The SCH has created a special link on its website to raise public awareness about the disease and has set up a hotline — 6674 0948 — that is available round the clock. THE PENINSULA

According to Go.Gulf which conducted the study, Facebook had emerged highly popular in the Arab world only in the past three years due to its role in the Arab Spring revolutions. Twitter’s low popularity was because it began using Arabic as a language only in March 2012, the study said. NEW DELHI: Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s pet welfare measure, the food security pro- gramme was yesterday launched in three party-ruled northern states — Delhi, Haryana and Uttarakhand — even as the bill could not be taken up in parlia- ment with the BJP disrupting the proceedings on its demands regarding alleged irregularity in coal block allocations. The government’s hopes to pass the bill in the Lower House yesterday, the birth anniver- sary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, were belied as the Congress managers failed to gauge the opposition strategy. However, Sonia Gandhi, while launching the rights-based ambitious food scheme in Delhi, described it as “unparalleled in the world”. Delhi is among the first states to roll out the pro- gramme after the government got the president to approve an ordinance in June. “We decided to formulate food security bill so that the poor do not remain hungry, their children do not sleep hungry and they do not suffer malnutrition,” Sonia Gandhi said at Talkatora Stadium here. “The guarantee of food pro- vided by food security scheme UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi (second left) presents a ceremonial oversized food card as Delhi Chief Minister on such a large scale is unpar- Sheila Dixit (left) looks on during the launch of the Food Security Programme in New Delhi yesterday.
