310. Československá Stíhací Peruť RAF 310. československá stíhací peruť RAF Znak 310. československé stíhací perutě 310. československá stíhací peruť RAF (anglicky: № 310 Fighter Squadron) byla jednou ze čtyř československých perutí RAF. Jejím heslem bylo anglické: WE FIGHT TO REBUILD („Bojujeme za obnovu“). Vznik 10. července 1940 vydalo britské ministerstvo letectví rozkaz k zformování No. 310 squadron. Bojeschopnou uznána 17. 8. 1940 v Duxfordu (Duxford Aerodrome) v hrabství Cambridge. Velitelem byl ustanoven Alexander Hess a spoluvelitelem George Blackwood. Vyzbrojena byla letouny Hawker Hurricane Mk. IA později Hawker Hurricane Mk. IIA. Sergeant Baker's comic strip in the service magazine Yank, published on Sundays price 3d, depicted the Sack's confrontations with the perils and perplexities of wartime service life. In all his dealings - with fellow soldiers, top brass, foreign nationals, prostitutes and the rest of the world in general - the little private always came off second best. But he remained the Army's hero, a trusting soul whose own little world of dreamy optimism was constantly devastated by unforeseen disaster. His name derived from the drill sergeant’s parade-square name for all new doughboys. To that redoubtable NCO all recruits were "sad

  • A WWII Ace Returns to Duxford
A WWII Ace Returns to Duxford By Marcy Garriott In September 2013, Robert and I had the great honor of visiting the Duxford Air Base, near Cambridge England, with our friend Huie Lamb, who was sta- tioned there as a U.S. Army Air Corps fighter pilot from August 1944 through October 1945. Huie is still an intrepid traveler, who at age 89 persevered through flight de- lays and an unexpected overnight layover in Dallas, prolonging his travel time by a day. Upon his arrival at the John Barleycorn pub in Duxford, where we had booked rooms, he smiled energetically and declined the offer of a meal and a nap, preferring instead to head directly to the air base. This was not Huie’s first trip back to Duxford, but it was the first visit without a pro- grammed agenda or major event underway. We were there to explore – the weather was gorgeous, and the off-season grounds were almost deserted. Duxford was originally built as a World War I RAF base, with administration and housing buildings added in the 1930s as tensions built across Europe. Early in WWII, Duxford RAF pilots played a critical role in the Battle of Britain. In 1943, the British handed the airfield over to the Americans to use as a base for the 78th Fighter Group. Today it houses Britain’s largest air museum, the Imperial War Museum Duxford, along with the American Air Museum, a me- morial to the 30,000 airmen who lost their lives flying from British air bases during World War II.

INDEX TO UNITED KINGDOM NOTICES TO AIRMEN (NOTAMS) 1921-1939 and 1945 to 1949. This list comprises the archive copies of Notices to Airmen previously held by the UK Aeronautical Information Services. These were passed to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Library in the 1970s and, in 2010, they were lodged with the National Aerospace Library (NAL) at Farnborough, Hants. Some of the Notams are missing and none are held for the period November 1939 to December 1945. In 1949 the existing Notam series was withdrawn in favour of Information Circulars, current Notams being either incorporated into a new edition of the Air Pilot or renumbered into the new Information Circular series. The NAL also holds the Aeronautical Information Circulars archive of the CAA Library although this is incomplete.
