WORK

2002 - present: Freelance Film Director, Storyboard Artist and Consultant.

2009 – Present: Senior Lecturer on BA Animation + VFX at Falmouth University.

2013 – 2017: Consultant, Cross Channel Film Lab. Falmouth University/Le Groupe Ouest (Brittany) collaborative project to help develop low budget feature films using VFX and/or Stereo 3D.

Currently – Developing various film and TV projects including, ‘Doodles’ – Live action/CG feature film; script funded by Ffilm Cymru; ‘Crypto Construction’; Children’s TV series; ‘Cheslea Hotel’ – Youth TV series.

Currently directing live action short; ‘The Day of the Coyote’.

2018 – Producer on live brief with students of films for National Space Society (Returning to the Moon) and Devon and Cornwall Police (Hate Crime and Diversity)

2017 – Producer on live brief with students of films for charity, Shelterbox.

2016 – Producer: short film, ‘It Gets Better’, on Children in Care, for Cornwall Council.

2015 – Producer of five short films (and writer of one) promoting Restorative Justice; ‘Labels’, ‘Balance’, ‘Home’, ‘Health’ and ‘Fragile’

Storyboards for ‘Woolly and Tig’; Tattiemoon for Cbeebies.

2013 – Character design for new Danone yogurt product and British Dental Health Foundation. Various storyboards.

2012 – ongoing development and script editing of three TV specials for Friends and Heroes Productions.

Storyboards for Dramatico Entertainment on a new series of The Wombles.

2010 – 2012 Character designer for children’s series ‘Hippo’s House’.

2009 – Director for Friends and Heroes Productions, ‘Portia Confidential’

2007 – Storyboard/Animatic supervisor for Ragdoll Ltd. on new series, ‘Tronji’

2007 – Consultant for Dramatico Entertainment on film project; ‘Ergo’.

2006 – Storyboard supervisor for BKN New Media on a series of nine animated films for children.

2005 – present – Storyboards for Cartwn Cymru, CharacterShop, A Productions and Platinum Films.

2003 – 2004 - Feature development work for Aardman Animations on ‘Tortoise v Hare’. (I was engaged as Director but the film was a casualty of the collapse of the relationship between Aardman and DreamWorks) Consultant to Matrix Model Group on bolexbrothers feature, ‘Grass Roots’ Mentor for the Film Council’s First Light scheme Consultant on HP Labs, SE3D digital animation scheme.

‘Arcadia’ 11 mins. (live-action fiction) 1988 Channel 4 (directed by Paul Bamborough) Originated and co-wrote script In a world where everyone and everything is your enemy (even your mum), video games tend to be very different.

‘Binky and Boo’ (Cut-out animation) 11 mins. 1988 Channel 4 (co-directed with Phil Austin) Direction, Additional animation Based on a stand-up routine by comedian Bernard Padden and featuring the voice of Jimmy Jewell. When Music Hall ruled the earth.

‘The Victor’ (2D animation) 12 mins 1985 Channel 4 (co-directed with Phil Austin) Script, direction and animation Drugs designed to reduce Jimmy’s resistance to killing and create a super soldier break down more barriers than the military expect.

‘Skywhales’ (2D animation) 15 mins 1983 Channel 4 (co-directed with Phil Austin) Script, design, direction and animation A race of blue creatures floats through the clouds on islands of vegetation and hunts flying whales. Alien dialogue only.

‘Arcade Attack’ (2D animation) 4 mins. 1981 BFFC (co-directed with Phil Austin) Script, design, direction and animation Commissioned as the climax to a documentary about pinball and video game rivalries it took on a life of its own and went to festivals in its own right.

‘The Great Rock ’n’ Roll Swindle’ (The Sex Pistols movie) Director Julian Temple 1979: Cartoon inserts, titles and credits, special effects, censorship changes. Design, direction and animation with Phil Austin. The film that kick-started Animation City.

‘Animated Conversations: Albion’ (2D animation) 5 mins. 1978 BBC Bristol Design, direction and animation Uses a real conversation as the basis for a story of the place hippies go when they get old.

‘Max Beeza and the City in the Sky’ (2D animation) 20 mins.1977 NFTS (co-directed with Phil Austin) Script, design, direction and animation. As pollution grows at ground level the remaining population of Britain is crowded into a city 12 miles high. Max Beeza entertains.

‘Custard’ 20 mins. (2D animation) 1974 Sheffield Poly School of Art and Design (co-directed with Phil Austin) Script, design, direction and animation. Winner of the first Yorkshire Shorts competition, the story of one man’s unhealthy obsession and what happens when others find out about it.
