INFORMATIONEN Die Drifters sind eine Institution. Über 60 Jahre lang populär zu bleiben schaffen nur wenige Gesanggruppen. Auf einem für seine mangelnde Beständigkeit bekanntem Gebiet fallen die Drifters wirklich auf. Auf diesem CD-Album, das der Drifters-Chronist Bill Millar zusammen gestellt hat, finden sich sämtliche von den Drifters zwischen 1953 und 1963 eingespielten Rock 'n' Roll-Nummern. 13 Stücke werden geprägt von Clyde McPhatter, der vielleicht größten Te- norstimme in der Geschichte des R&B. Weitere 19 Titel präsentieren wichtige Leadsänger wie Bill Pinkney, Bobby Hendricks und Ben E. King sowie die unverwechselbare, sonnige Stimme von Johnny Moore. Bobby Hendricks, der wohl eleganteste Sänger, der je beim Hemsby Rock 'n' Roll Festival aufgetreten ist, gehören etliche Songs, darunter Drip Drop und sein Solo-Hit, mit dem er in die Top Dreißig kam, Itchy Twitchy Feeling. Die meisten dieser Aufnahmen zielten auf den Markt des Rhythm 'n' . Die Drifters dominierten die Pop-Charts mit Schall- platten, die oft kaum mehr waren als Sologesang plus angeheuerte Sänger, die vom Blatt ablasen.
